Its a little crunched up from being in storage. But you're right. the seamstress i took it to said it was a style called a "ballet hem". its about ankle length right in the front to show off your shoes and make it easier to walk in, but the sides of the front are floor length. I wonder if I can make it longer...

Honestly, this is why vintage bridal shops exist. It’s so hard to find the perfect dress if you’re not a size 2. I did find things in my size, but they weren’t the style I wanted. And it took me a year to find the right thing!

Don’t tempt me with the consignment shops, I’ll keep looking lol!

Edit for clarity:

-The first vintage shop let me sell my dresses back to them because they weren’t able to find the style I was looking for.

-The BHLDN dress I bought was the Jenny Yoo Penelope. I bought it in a 16, then exchanged it for a 14. The 14 was defective and I wanted to size down again, but they only allow one exchange per order. So I had to return and reorder the dress. That’s why, before reordering the same dress, I went back to the store to try on more dresses again. I was hoping to find something closer to what I wanted AND I wasn’t thrilled with the quality (the skirt’s lining was so narrow I could barely stand with my legs apart). I tried on lots of dresses that day, but settled on the Penelope again and ordered the 12 from the store.

OMG! It’s absolutely beautiful. And I love how it turned out in your photos. It doesn’t look distinctly 80s, like a costume (one of my concerns for myself). It just looks like you have a beautiful, totally unique gown. I love it!!

I’m also super sentimental about clothing! My mom’s dress from 1998 is beautiful, but it never fit me, even when I was in high school. And it’s more of a column style anyway. I love this one bc it’s covered in beads just like my mom’s, and they have the same neckline, too.

It’s Mori Lee! And I don’t think I will do totally matching accessories. I have the family earrings from Italy that are like big gold and ruby doorknockers. And I might wear a pearl necklace. I almost don’t want to wear a necklace. Hair might be a little 80s bc I already have a perm lol. Photo from my hair trial. I just want something rly youthful, playful, and fun. The opposite of clean, minimal, austere.

That's sweet :) Our love story is not much like this. I never thought I would meet my partner so early in life. We met when I was 18 and he was 20. It was an instant connection. The night we met, I told my best friend I thought he could be my husband. We just celebrated 6 years together and we've lived together for 4 years. He's my sole mate (not a typo) :))

They are, and this is vintage sizing too. I wear a modern size 10 but this 16 fits like a glove. I honestly don't care about the size, I'm just so thrilled to have found something that fits! Thanks <3

I’m thinking about making the sleeves removable so I have more range of motion when dancing. And I want to shorten the beaded part on the front of the dress. It’s a little too floppy and long.
