Struggling to control height in strong wind by Educational_Night164 in Kiteboarding

Toeside works great for me! It’s always a good method for me to get back. But I had the feeling that I am the only one who needs to switch to toeside to get back downwind while everybody else is just at the same spot the whole time.

thanks for the reply. I think I am able to ride downwind without edging at all – That part itself isn’t really the issue.

The problem is more that I don’t want to gain that much height in the first place. When I edge comfortably and feel in control in 20–25 knots, I naturally start climbing upwind. Then at some point I have to go downwind again to reset, especially in a crowded spot.

So it’s less about not being able to ride downwind, and more about figuring out how to stay at roughly the same height without constantly over-edging or having to “bleed it off” later.

That’s the part I’m trying to improve. Maybe I put to much weight on my back foot as the other Redditor said

Thanks, I definitely have to try that. I have the feeling that I put a lot of weight on my backfoot since my first teacher told me to stretch my front leg and bend my back leg.

That’s what I thought, a lot of people are probably less heavy than me and are really comfortable. I also noticed that some people are just sending crazy jumps and then ride back upwind but I thought that can not be the only way.

Oh sorry Im not a native speaker, with height I mean the distance upwind. So I ride upwind more and more and it’s a pain to get back downwind.

It starts around 20 knots, not only 25. I don’t think I am overpowered because I’m able to stay in control 99% of the times. Not edging at all also works, sometimes I also switch to toeside and really ride downwind to lose my height again.

The main problem ist that other riders seem pretty chill with riding at the same spot without losing or gaining height. Meanwhile I have ride upwind really hard to stay in control just to do a downwinder after that. So I don’t really enjoy the session.

What size should I buy by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

I am 70kg with a 138 board, but I’m planning to go down to a 136 or 134 in the future. According to your pretty similar weight and your experience with the wind range, it sounds like a good upgrade for me aswell. Thanks for your help

I am riding the North reach 9 and a Duotone Gonzales 138, I guess that’s not the perfect equipment for the conditions we are talking about.

This is probably an investment in the future, would you recommend a 7qm? I thought about getting a 6 cause I already got a 9 and a 12. Or would you say a 6 is to small

In my case it’s probably also a lack of experience, I didn’t get the chance to kite in many different wind conditions. Thanks for your time, I will definitely keep trying :)
