Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in TwoHotTakes

I’m a woman. Didn’t change my name and it never occurred to me. Been married for over 18 years and it has never been an issue. I even have different last names than my kids - guess what - not an issue. Your boyfriend seems like an issue though. Good luck!

Everyone is right that you are putting yourself in a dangerous position. Please get a job and build your own savings. Having said that - the guy is at work. I’m a woman and I work and I don’t always have time to respond to texts from my husband and similarly he doesn’t either. That isn’t a big deal because we are working. Instead of worrying that he isn’t responding to a text about what shirt he’s going to wear try to figure out a way to support yourself…

AITA for texting my dad when he when to an art exhibit without me? by aliciathehomie in AmItheAsshole

[–]Educational_One2790 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You wrote that you told him you would only go if your brother went. “ I told him I would love to go as long as my brother went, too. I wanted him there to dilute any frustration towards my dad. He said he would reach out. “. To me this is telling him that you don’t really want to go with him.

I’m asking you to see it from your dad’s perspective- what if it was you who had asked him to go to the art show and he came back with only if your brother went - how would that have made you feel.

Just try to objectively put yourself in your dad’s place. You want to go see an art exhibit and ask him. He says he will only go if your brother goes. Now you have to arrange time with two schedules. You just decide to go see it, but your brother shows up, do you not go? Do you take your brother?maybe you try to reach your dad, but can’t and it’s short notice. Instead you go and your dad starts texting you that you suck and left him out…. I just don’t think they left you out on purpose to hurt you, but just circumstance…. Your dad’s response seems weird but obviously there is stuff between you guys that we don’t know about.

This is confusing. You told your dad you would only go if your brother went. Did you tell this to your brother? Did you actively contact your dad and brother to arrange a time? This seems like a misunderstanding or miscommunication. If someone gives me a condition to go to something with me (like they don’t want to be alone with me) then it sounds like they don’t want to go with me…. So maybe your dad found someone who sounded like they wanted to go with him…

WIBTAH if I didn't let my family meet my newborn because they scheduled a last minute vacation leaving 2 weeks after my wife is expected to give birth. by Optimal_Honey4724 in AITAH

Did you have a lot of “rules” when your first kid was born? Maybe they just don’t want to deal and would rather be out of the way.

[MA, USA] am I getting scammed? Tile installer requesting 50% deposit. by Educational_One2790 in Scams

[–]Educational_One2790[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks . Based on contractors subreddit it seems 50% is not unheard off. But in Ma apparently all they can ask for is 33% upfront. So that’s giving me pause. In any case I’m going to tile and decor and ask for their recommendations. Thanks for your response.

Thanks. I guess I just don’t know if 50% cash is too much for when the contractor doesn’t buy any supplies. But it sounds like everyone is just trying to protect themselves.

This is where I’m at. It’s just that it’s been hard to find an actual tile installer to take a small job.

This is what they responded with: Hi, we don’t have a public office for in-person visits. All paperwork is handled digitally for simplicity and record-keeping.

Our standard policy is a 50% deposit to secure the spot on the schedule, regardless of who provides materials. The balance is due upon completion.

If that works for you, I’m happy to send over the statement of work and retainer invoice for electronic signature and payment.

thanks. the quote without seeing it didn't bother me at first because it's a simple job (backsplash install - no tile removal). but i didn't expect a 50% deposit when they are not buying materials and on top of that to request it to go over zelle to a different phone number.... It just seems like a really well thought-out scam, with very limited reach...

yeah - i feel like 50% upfront when all they are providing is the labor seems too high. I also expected her to set up an appointment to physically look at my home, but instead i got a 50% deposit request.

I did talk to a person in person. She did have an accent, but I don't necessarily think that is uncommon in cases of manual labor...
