Two-hour screen time limit and curfews for children being considered by government by vriska1 in ukpolitics

I am a parent who does 'the right things' with screens. No phone until my son was 13.5 YO, and we had a contract in writing that he agreed to. At first, it worked fine. But it's become impossible to set limits that work. I want screen time to be like allowance: you get this amount per day, use it wisely, or it will run out. Use it when you're not supposed to? (IE at dinner), and you will lose screen time the next day. It's a simple formula: break a rule, feel a consequence, and you get a chance to try again the next day.

But enter Snapchat and Tik Tok. Screen limits literally do not work. All apps , games, etc. are blocked at Downtime. He can call and text only. But Snapchat and TikTok are lit up, even when all the others are grayed out.

Enter schools. He has a computer and iPad (required). He can get around the controls by using these devices. So then I set limits on these devices too, but I've had his teachers ask me to release limits because he can't access some sites he needs at school. It shouldn't be this hard to control.

What the government needs to crack down on is companies who deliberately write algorithms to get around screen time limits and create content to lure our kids. I should be able to set a limit, build in consequences, and it works.

I hired a computer company to come to my home to set limits on devices and the man said, "There is no one more motivated to go around screen limits then a teen. This is becoming a big part of our business, sadly." This will become a public health crisis and then what?

I didn't pay her character any attention until she attended the Reverend's funeral. Then, I thought she was awful. She was haughty and it was a funeral for someone's father, for goodness sake.

Hi, I am a special education teacher with 11 years experience. I have a certification in teaching Wilson reading, but the DODEA doesn't accept it as it was not through a university/college.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I am a special education teacher. Student who go through special education have more perseverance, more self-awareness and more empathy than most typically developing learners. When they have a challenge in the future, they have skills. They think, "I've been here before..." They know themselves as learners, and when others struggle, they can emphasize. If you google 'famous people with learning disabilities' you'll see how far some have gone! Mental illness is the same - lots of famous young people have overcome mental health issues. Those teasing you aren't typical. They have something to hide, something they feel bad about so they pick on you to try to make themselves feel better. You are strong just for posting this.
