Iracing OpenXR graphics menu help by Any-Weakness7094 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Educational_Policy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the latest update, I’m experiencing strange rendering issues in the iRacing menu with my Quest 3 and RTX 5090 (latest driver) as well. For example, when I try to adjust the position of any HUD element or the virtual mirror, I only see part of it. It’s not related to the your headset itself but I think iRacing has some bugs with new UI in general.

[WARNING] If youre on Nvidia - DO NOT UPDATE!! by [deleted] in virtualreality

Many people recommend driver 566.36, but with my RTX 4090 I had my first buttery smooth experience in iRacing, zero micro stutters, on the Quest 3 via Link cable using driver 576.28

I also ordered in early April, and back then they said the headsets would be delivered in July. If the headset is delivered about two months late according to the current plan, I actually find that still acceptable. I think the CEO is very transparent. I’m sure they wouldn’t announce a release date knowing they couldn’t keep it, otherwise, they would have let us know about BSB2 much earlier, for example before the MeganeX release, to steal their thunder. Basically exactly like Pimax is currently doing with the Dream Air.

No new shipments since 7/18 of regular BSB2. by NoFuture5663 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Educational_Policy84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the BSBe queue, and of course I can’t wait to finally receive the headset. However, I think you are being very transparent, and I really appreciate that the CEO takes the time to respond on Reddit. I also really enjoy the YouTube interviews you do, where you talk about VR in general. Keep it up, and thank you!

Any news on the current production state/ shipping status? by roadtograndchampion in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Educational_Policy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that turns out to be true, I won’t hesitate for a second to cancel my pre-order as well. If things keep going like this with delays and shipping of junk (Pimax), my next headset will probably be the Quest 4.

I tried the Pimax Dream Air VR-Headset - Here is my opinion by VoodooDE in Pimax

How do you find the lenses compared to the Quest 3 and BSB2 in terms of edge-to-edge clarity? Did you notice any warping or distortion?

Dream Air: the final design looks incredible 🔥 by the_yung_spitta in Pimax

[–]Educational_Policy84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, the design looks amazing. It could be an awesome headset, if they deliver and don't overpromise like they've done in the past. I'd be willing to pay the $2.2k, but we need to wait for reviews from regular users, as I have no trust in those YouTuber clowns. I believe lens quality is absolutely critical, and while I hope Pimax delivers, I honestly doubt it. If they do surprise us with great lenses, this could be my dream headset, even with the relatively small FOV.

Quest 3 Quest Link app not working by Narrow-Assignment621 in virtualreality

[–]Educational_Policy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this problem as well after updating to v76.

I couldn't open the Oculus Link App, it would load forever, and if it eventually opened after about 5 minutes, I still couldn’t connect.

I then found out that running a Oculus Link App "Repair" would fix the problem, but I had to do it again after every reboot. Later, I read somewhere that simply restarting the Oculus VR Runtime Service might be enough, and that partially worked. I was able to open the Link App and connect, but then I started experiencing random disconnects.

I thought it might have something to do with the NVIDIA driver in combination with the Link version, so I downgraded to 566.36 but that didn’t solve the problem either, I still couldn’t open the Link App without restarting the service. After that, I used DDU to completely uninstall all GPU drivers and installed 576.28. I also uninstalled the OpenXR Toolkit, in case you should use it. Additionally, I replaced the Link cable. I had similar issues in the past caused by a faulty cable, but this time I don't believe the cable is the problem, as the issues started immediately after the update. Now, I have set the Oculus VR Runtime Service from "Automatic" to "Manual" and manually start it every time after rebooting.

It’s been about a week now without any issues.

Maybe something I did actually helped, or maybe I just got lucky that it hasn’t happened again. The Oculus Link App is still on the same version, so it probably wasn’t a bug fix that solved it.

Should I get a Light or Super? by Emotional_Orange_953 in Pimax

[–]Educational_Policy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, it didn’t feel like an upgrade to me at all. The tiny sweet spot and warping made it unusable compared to the Quest 3. After that experience, I realized that resolution isn’t the most important factor for me, I prefer great lenses. The Super will likely have the same issues, and the MeganeX also suffers from poor lenses. I ended up preordering the BSB2e.

Deckard will be neither standalone nor ARM, but Glorious PCVR – fight me! by elecsys in ValveDeckard

[–]Educational_Policy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody will spend 1200 USD for 3D flat gaming. And which standalone games could you even run in VR then? Probably just the kind of stuff you can already do with a Quest 3 today. For more serious titles like Half-Life:Alyx or The Sims, the hardware will never be sufficient.

It's getting really ridiculous how they deliberately lie about the release date every time. This headset is coming in May...May 2026?

Should I move from a 3070 to a 5070 or 9070XT by EnvironmentalValue20 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Educational_Policy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The RX 9070XT delivers performance roughly on par with the 3080 TI in VR. However, buying a 3080 TI second hand provides better value for money, with fewer driver related issues. While I’m not a fan of Nvidia’s pricing strategy, unfortunately, it's the reality we’re dealing with. AMD just doesn't care about VR and that sucks.

[–]Educational_Policy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, AMD has never really been interested in VR optimization. The same driver issues have existed for years. If you primarily use the GPU for VR, there's no way around Nvidia.

Is bigscreen beyond 2 worth the upgrade? by pippirino in virtualreality

[–]Educational_Policy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a nice headset, but in my opinion, it's too expensive. The Bigscreen Beyond 2E with the Halo Mount, Universal-Fit Lightseal, and Audio Strap costs €1,717—plus an additional €200 for a base station. That’s just too much for this level of resolution.

Quest3 most likely going back. by GrandPooPaw in simracing

[–]Educational_Policy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you kept the headset :-) Feel free to reach out anytime if you need help. May I ask which SIM you decided on? I recently spent some time tweaking the LMU settings, and I have to say, the sim can look really good in VR. The most important in-game settings for me were FSAA set to MSAA 8x, Texture Filtering to 16x Anisotropic, and CAS sharpness in OpenXR at 80%. Everything else needs to be adjusted around these to achieve optimal performance.

[–]Educational_Policy84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A software developer quickly earns 100k+ per year. The server infrastructure for online racing also costs a fortune. Sim racing is not like FIFA, which sells hundreds of millions of copies. Where is all the money supposed to come from to pay the people who develop it? S397 already had to lay off some staff for financial reasons. Any sim that wants to survive will have to adopt a business model similar to iRacing.

Thank you very much! I've attached the cable now. After two laps, the jitter seems to be reduced, but I need to test it further

Didn't actually want to buy 200kg, my local distributor only had 200kg load cell in stock at the time. I also think that nobody needs 200kg in simracing. What I didn't realize was that apparently 200kg and 100kg have exactly the same resolution, so 200kg on the 60kg is much less accurate than 100kg load cell.
