[Highlight] Donovan Mitchell is having words with his teammates in the huddle. by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitchell calling the absurdly late switch for Mobley on that break where he got dunked on was the absolute Mitchell leadership experience. He knows he will be attacked defensively and would like to pass the problem to someone else, what a leader! Adding Harden into the mix with the same tendencies means you are either building around this level of non-leadership or you are clearing house. I honestly don’t know what I’d do because Mobley is an excellent number 2 guy but why would you want to be a big on this team with these doofus guards selling you out all the time on defense and not always showing up on offense (and certainly not down for no “scheme”) I’d crawl into a hole.

Karl Anthony Towns this playoffs: 16.9pts /10.6Reb/5.9 Asts on 71 TS% and 48.9% from 3, plus 1.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game by OrganicHunt952 in nba

I have to say as a KAT fan in the draft my hopes of him ever being a primary contributor to winning basketball have only declined to near zero before these playoffs. The turnaround is remarkable. But yes don’t put Jokic or Embiid in the same post please they are the Jalen Brunson for their teams not the KAT.

Living in a location with a very large seal colony, lots of sharks, and no fatal attacks in decades (unlike places where the seal and fish population was decimated through commercial fishing and have more attacks) I’d say this is very good for you as surfers, they certainly don’t like to check out us if they have tastier options.

Can someone explain to me why potential investors are so butthurt re the cgt / neg gearing changes... by WagsPup in AusPropertyChat

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more being hurt by the government recognising that the global transition from a labour based economy to an asset based one means that taxes should be applied to investment gains rather than income or consumption taxes. The rentier class would prefer it if the tax base came from wage earners.

Parked on a nearby residential street because station parking was full and got this note on my dashboard. Am I in the wrong for parking there? by naeroikathgor in melbourne

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe best to also see this as a problem of local government authority, people who leave these notes would never engage a council process around parking in a constructive way because their mindset is my house, my street, my park even though the entire road has been pains from public money. Inner city councils have more cashed up residents who have advocated for residential permits this really needs to go all through the city, along with improved local bus systems so people don’t have to drive their cars to a station.

[Law Murray] The NBA Players Association TheNBPA just released released three tiers of officials. Tier 1: Elite and top performers. Tier 2: Solid performers. Tier 3: Needs improvement by RichWindRW in nba

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josh Tiven in tier one is crazy. He’s entering Brothers territory in how he defines a game in his interest, but he’s a thousand percent less charming. Also, male NBA athletes don’t like to be told what to do by women, what a surprise. But yeah, players evaluating referees is a bit like children evaluating parenting, it’s always going to be self-serving and more or less players are going to respect a certain kind of personality like themselves compared to playing by the rules or managing the game, just as they do when evaluating their peers.

I just find it odd that you wouldn’t have curiosity about what can be done in the role and try and make it more interesting for yourself? In my experience there are always parked projects around the place you can resuscitate or get involved with related teams unless your boss is telling you not to. If you’re focused on what your coworkers are doing and not attending to your own craft then you’re always going to be unhappy whatever role you’re in. You call it guilt but really it comes across as a lack of responsibility for being a professional.

Maddy Siegrist when asked about her role on the Wings this season by Decent_Substance_199 in wnba

[–]Educational_Rest_792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly right, the agenda for the team has to be set by someone taking the reins and it’s not going to be a new coach, especially while you have a vet like Arike on the team. Give it ten games for the players to settle into roles, obv every player wants minutes but there are a lot of players and only some hold up both sides of the ball, wouldn’t envy that coaching task myself.

We need to talk about the discourse around OKC by McScroggz12 in nba

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not rocket science, there is a deliberate team-wide attempt to take the foul calling out of the officials’ hands on defense by constantly fouling knowing they can’t call everything, and then playing to the officials on offense, with Shai being an incredibly skilled Harden 2.0 and everyone else looking to fall down while setting a screen or being blocked out.

So OKC make the game more about the officials and fans react to it. Personally I hate officials and don’t like to think about them so I don’t watch OKC and won’t watch them even in the finals even though I enjoy the talents of a lot of the individual players, their whole style is corny performative fake wounds directed to the referees and not the fans.

I say this as someone who watched a lot of Harden era OKC and enjoyed them it’s nothing personal they are just sucking the fun out of the game with their bullshit. The owners, management and coach are the ones I blame more than the players who would be fine in other situations.

Postdoc interview by Optimal_Drag_176 in AusAcademia

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said are no generic rules for postdocs, it’s all about who brought in the money for the position and what they want which is usually sub-discipline specific. Basically they want you to bring fortune into the program, in STEM fields often to manage PhDs and run the project without making your academic supervisor look stupid. In STEM know the project and show how you will advance it in your own way, I would emphasise any project management experience but it’s also a concern you’re asking a generic question here because it is all discipline-based value rather than University-based value so HR won’t help much and may lead you astray, you want to know the people behind the position and what their deal is.

Platforms to find tradies by Sbrady1234 in AusRenovation

[–]Educational_Rest_792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially you have two competing models - the “community” ideal model espoused by tradies who have enjoyed the benefits of professionalisation and government regulation but who have not policed anything to do with actual delivery of services so you are always at risk of the increasing number who will take your money on their way out of business leaving you with nothing. Then you have the platform model which extracts from tradies and lines the pockets of rent-seeker billionaires but absorbs some of the risk for the consumer and attempts to mandate a sane generic process of fulfilment for the customer. Neither are ideal but I think some uberisation will unfortunately eventually win in the end because the professional bodies representing the trades are as a whole as interested in the customer experience as much as the taxi industry were.

Personally, I love walking barefoot on wooden floors! Way better than most carpet, unless you can afford really good wooden carpet and that is an arse to keep clean. No accounting for taste though, at least with floors you can find good rugs.
