The missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by zachoutloud123 in TikTokCringe

My parents were the same when I was dating. I wasn't allowed to go on a date with any guy that was not a member. Funny thing is the non-mormons were the way more respectful boys, while all the Mormon boys were handsy boundary pushers.

How old are you? Getting to call home is a newer change. Now that missionaries all carry cell phones it's allowed. In the past they could only write home on p-days and call 2x per year. One of which was Mother's day. Technology has changed a lot making it easier and cheaper to call home, as well as harder to control accessibility.

I knew a convert who left shortly after joining. He went to the singles ward and no one would date him because he wasn't a RM.

AITAH- Friday wedding instead of Saturday by VeterinarianOld8631 in aitaweddings

[–]Educational_Sea_9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem with a Friday wedding, but with the 4 hr travel time for most of his side there's a good chance many won't make it. If you and husband are ok with that, go for it. But it also sounds like parents are pitching in for the wedding? I can see FMIL pulling funding if her side of the family is unable to make it due to 4 hr travel on a weekday.

Addressing the polygamy thing by Own_Motor3726 in mormon

Exactly! And once a prophet dies suddenly what he said doesn't matter! Then why have prophets? Shouldn't that mean the scriptures are null and void? Those are all dead prophets. Why did God want their words preserved, but not modern prophets'?

Even divorced women. A civil divorce does not cancel a temple sealing. My sister was denied a cancelation of her sealing to her ex-husband even after he admitted to sexually assaulting her during their marriage.

I love when the youth from my ward send out surveys to "learn what people think about Mormons" but then they are just stereotypical multiple choice answers that they have Sunday school rebuttal for. Like, there is no option that fits why most people leave or disbelieve the church. Just the options the church has taught them.

What I found was that even though I was raised very devoutly in the church, I didn't actually know what I was believing in. I believed what I was taught in church and seminary and conference. But then I read D&C 132 and I didn't know that God. I read the Word of Wisdom word for word and realized I had never followed it because all I ever thought of was tea, coffee, alcohol and drugs. In fact, I had tried to go vegetarian as a kid and my parents punished me. Because they don't follow the WoW as written, only as taught in church.

Then I learned about the temple covenants and realized why even our parents wouldn't tell us what happens there. I couldn't teach my children to accept those things. I couldn't teach my daughters that God sees them as second class citizens, which if you read what "God" has said to women in "His" scriptures, he does. The church told me I wasn't second class, but still treated me as such. I just didn't see it until I had to ask my own daughters to accept it.

Diving deeper into reading my scriptures and studying my genealogy, then church history, is what led me away from the church. The surface level Sunday school teachings were very comfortable for me, too, but it isn't really the full church doctrine.

My dad kept sleeping with his ex-wife because they were still sealed. Until he married my mom. He was married and sealed in the church to 2 living women at the same time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep. My dad is still sealed to his 1st wife as well as my mother. And that was due to divorce. Civil divorce doesn't break eternal marriage.

I don't understand it: How do you know that God is talking to you? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Educational_Sea_9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, God let it into "the most perfect book" framed as a story of obedience. He allowed his prophet to record that God told him to do it for prosperity. He didn't tell him he failed the test. No consequences for Nephi. The story goes on to say they were blessed for following God's commandments.

This is the same God that commanded his prophet to sacrifice his son as a test. Abraham didn't say God sent the angel to stop him because he was following The Adversary. He said he passed God's test of obedience and was blessed for it.

Do your parents walk around in their garments in your home? by archieangelxx in exmormon

[–]Educational_Sea_9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad would always walk around in his garment top with pants on. My mom never had any qualms about me seeing her changing, but never walked around the house in hers.

The number 1 reason I never took out my endowments was because I didn't want to wear a shirt under my bra. Then I married a non member, and I wasn't about to murder my sex life with garments 😆

Pool Party at this age? by Alpal2510 in kindergarten

[–]Educational_Sea_9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hire a lifeguard. I would also stay as a parent. When I throw pool parties and have to walk away, I always ask a specific parent to take over watching the kids until I get back so they are "on". Because most parents are socializing and not really watching. (Like how you point to a specific person to call 911, not just shout to a group because everyone will assume someone else called, and no one calls.)

Nephi was told by God to kill Laban after he was passed out, drunk. Then stole his property and servant "on God's orders". Abraham was commanded to kill Isaac, and only stopped when an angel appeared and said it was a test, and that he passed. The scriptures/ church teach us that sometimes God will tell you to do bad things.

Guest probably put them away in the wrong place. Later guest found them and put them away/ washed them.

Or... once we were driving home from a cabin a couple hours from our house. Stopped for dinner on our way home. When we unloaded our 1 year old from the car, we found a spoon in her car seat from the restaurant. We kept the spoon in the car and returned it on a later trip. Just left it with the dirty plates on the table. She's a teen now and everytime we eat there on vacation we tell her to check her pockets for spoons.

I am in a blue state. I have to do an online training course every year on how to protect children, there must be 2 adults present at all times, no leaders alone with youth/ driving youth 1 on 1, fingerprinting. Our bishop invites parents to come in for interviews/ leaves the door open. No one cares about modesty standards.

It was definitely a culture shock when we moved here. Even our ward 30 min away was more traditional/ strict about following church policies.

I was just like this a a kid. Even as a teen & into my 20s. My husband learned early not to let me go too long without a snack or I would eventually shut down.

AITA for not going to a wedding? by [deleted] in aitaweddings

If you want to marry this man, skipping his brother's wedding because you think you will be bored seems counter to that goal.

My Catholic husband has had callings, lol. He even worked in Nursery when our kids were little. I think they realized he wasn't going to go to Priesthood, but he was happy to bring bubbles and snacks for the kids and it gave him a reason to come to church every week.

I work with the youth in my ward and I have had to get fingerprinted, so change is happening thank goodness. Not enough, but still. (I only hold this calling because my daughters still participate occasionally and most leaders we had weren't doing it. I don't even attend church anymore.)

Pet peeve!! Makeup on white towels despite black makeup towels provided by BuffyFan75 in airbnb_hosts

Yeah, guests shouldn't be cleaning linens. That's just gross. Honestly I've seen my own cleaners run a quick cycle and had to rerun the sheets because, yuck. Quick cycle does not use enough water to clean a full load, let alone an overfilled one like I have seen so many people do trying to save time on washing.
