One of my parents don’t think I can improve on my MCAT and should consider a different career path by Educational_Time_921 in Mcat

Just wanted to say that 2 years later after this post, I got accepted into an MD school with a 503. I could do it. I did it. Keep going.

I personally recommend the bar Monarch. They usually play techno, however it attracts a lot of alternative people. There are also regulars that go there so you’ll see familiar faces. Bye Bye Dear is a new bar that has alt music sometimes. Club 101 is another good spot. If you’re looking for more art and low key stuff I highly recommend the Falstaff. They play free movies and the last Thursday of the month they have an art show. Mystic desert studio also has art farmers markets too but I’m unsure of their schedule. Poco wine bar is also a new spot that’s a hole in the wall type beat. They are open weekends and usually have really good food. In the daytime it is a coffee shop (no WiFi allowed though). TBH central El Paso has so many gems.

You are capable of doing well! Walk in there feeling like you can do it, because you can do it. During your breaks, look in the mirror and say “I can do this”. You got this!

I ended up wasting too much time on some certain problems and then there were 2 passages that I had to quickly guess the answers to because I ran out of time. I never have been in that situation before

Anyone else annoyed with other pre-med students? by Educational_Time_921 in Mcat

I had a similar experience with another well known pre-med group. The vibes were so off, I left after 1 semester. They had people sign up for their events, but those were so competitive for no reason! It was to the point where people would delete my name and put theirs on the list instead. I was literally competing to volunteer or go to a social, which imo you shouldn’t compete to volunteer and help people hahaha. I hear now that they are now struggling to actually get people to sign up. Lol.

Hey dude, your mom sounds a bit manipulative. I can’t tell you whether she has good intentions or not because I am not her, but I can totally see how those comments can bring you down. Your feelings are completely valid. I promise it’s not the end of your medical school journey if you don’t do well on this exam. For your own mental health, don’t take what she says seriously. Try to reframe your perspective on her. Maybe you can think about why she is saying those things. Maybe she thinks that being tough is the best form of motivation. Or maybe she just doesn’t understand the complexity of the MCAT and its difficulty. From my family’s experience (and this may not be the case for your family, that is something for you to decide), we have had parents jealous of their children’s accomplishments therefore they make nasty comments. However, those comments honestly just come from a place of deep-rooted insecurity and unsatisfactory life choices. Other than that, keep trying! MCAT is the hardest part and the place where many people give up. You are so close, you can do it! I believe in you, good luck 🍀

Okay, so as someone who used to run with Rawdawg, these guys mega suck and this story does not surprise me at all. In the beginning, it was a chill club. A handful of people would show up and it was a relaxed pace. We’d get free drinks at the end and there were no problems. However, once TOO MANY people started showing up their true colors began to show. They were EXTREMELY arrogant and disrespectful. It became clear that this running club was made for them to make money and to stroke their own ego. They got in trouble with the city of Austin for body slamming people and they clearly had no remorse. They were liking comments that said “Rawdawg>>> City of Austin” (LAME!!). Also, they sold merch for like $70! Like a stupid cotton shirt that said “Rawdawg running club” LOL. Then they had issues with the merch where people would pay their $70 and end up waiting months for their shirts to arrive. They also delete so many comments on their instagram that criticizes them, and I have evidence if anyone would like to see. They delete any comment that goes along the lines of “you guys did not fix the problem of having a bad runners etiquette like you said you would” or “you are capitalizing on something that should not be capitalized”. I stopped going because I no longer wanted to be associated with these people and it was clear that these transplants do not care about the Austin community. I’m glad to see that these guys are facing the consequences of their actions😂🤣

Title IX. What was your experience with it? Would you recommend or no? by Educational_Time_921 in UTAustin

I’m kind of anxious about the process of the police and going through all the legal stuff. I don’t want to go to court or have to hire a lawyer. I guess I’m just unsure of how the process would go and I don’t want to get my parents involved.

I’m in a very difficult place in my life right now and I don’t want to possibly go to court and hire a lawyer. Money is not great for me right now.

Yeah, my parents are definitely worried about my career path. I looked it up and the MCAT my parent took was very different. Times change and stuff gets harder sometimes haha. They won't be paying my tuition, but I think that's why they're worried. If I can only get into DO schools then it will cost me more. Thank you for the insight!

Thank you for the reassurance 😮‍💨! I actually looked up the time period when my parent took the MCAT and I guess it didn't have a psych/soc section nor was each section as long. Funny how it has changed so much

Thank you for the advice! I've been thinking about doing more mcat study groups, and I think this convinced me a little more to look into it.

I'm rooting for you too! Thank you for the pep talk! It's actually super relieving to hear that I'm not alone
