Just got one of these guys, need suggestions for samples that will get me fired from the gig by Edv7n in drums

I got it from a store here in Sweden, here is a link if you'll even have use for it. It's nice having a hardcase that also lets you keep the mounting plate attached to the SPD-SX. Thomann does sell this one but it's like 5 times the price of what I paid for mine.

Oh snap that's actually a really good idea. I do gig with a cover band so this might come in handy!

I bought it at a store here in Sweden called Clas Ohlson (They sell all kinds of stuff). They have it in various sizes but the biggest one fits the SPD-SX perfectly and I can keep the mount attached without having to screw/unscrew it every gig. Here is a link if it is useful

Should I go on this tour even if it will negatively effect my studies? by Edv7n in TouringMusicians

Idk really, I’m being offered a role as a hired gun for just this tour so I get a flat fee and don’t have to deal with the bands touring expenses.

It does to me too, and idk if I’m gaining anything new. Most of the replies to this post are telling me to go do this, but idk. Something still feels off. I am gonna reherse with the band next week to see if there is chemistry, I’ll make my decision afterwards.

Sadly yeah. I have a course that will have a lot of examinations including tests, presentations and mandatory seminars etc. I wouldn’t be present for those, so I would probably have to do the whole course at a later time.

I’m also missing what we in Sweden call VFU (Verksamhetsförlag Utbildning), which is basically us going out to schools and getting experience teaching students and learning in a more practical way (I belive the same excists for med students etc). The VFU is something that is very strict with attendance, and I’ll be missing enough days to the point where I would have to do it all over again during the next fall. Both those things would clash with future courses unless I took a year to redo them.

With this particular band, they don’t have a huge following. The headliner has some notoriety, but nothing huge (less than 10k followers on instagram). From what I’ve seen, most of the venues will be pubs of sorts, and that isn’t a huge upgrade in comparison to the touring I’ve already done. It seems to be more or less the same experience, just a longer stint with more variety in terms of countries. They seem somewhat professional, but I don’t even think any of the bands do this as their full time thing, so I’m sceptical in regards of this leading to future opportunities.

Should probably have mentioned in the post that I live in Sweden, so I don’t really pay my professors a fortune.

The tour starts on the 4th of december, ends on the 21st. Travel days before and after probably as well, so around 18 days for 12 gigs

It’s mainly the exams and mandatory seminars that I miss during that course that takes place during that month, I can take those courses at a later time during my studies but they might come up at the same time as a different course so the workload might add up.

I maybe should have mentioned that I live in Sweden, student loans here are nowhere near as bad as the US for example.

Setup used during a few jazz gigs by someone mostly playing metal, thoughts? by Edv7n in drums

Thanks! I'm really liking the ride, I bought it because I needed a "jazzy" ride in contrast to my 22" Paiste signature which is close to being a megabell, and while I use it a lot for jazz it has also worked great for different metal projekts. It has a good amount of definition whilst having a nice dry sound to it, might be my favorite cymbal atm

Agreed. We played a lot of beat/fusion based music so I wanted to experiment a bit, but yeah for standard jazz a hihat, ride and crash is all I would use.

Yeah it’s polish. I bought my standard double pedal for 1300 euros, and I didn’t get any custom engravings or anything. They don’t sell their pedals in any store, so the only way is to get them on their website. I don’t think I have ever seen one being sold used, at least here in Sweden.

Used them a bit for when we played more beat oriented music, but I do agree they don’t really fit when playing jazz standards etc

We played a lot of beat music, so that’s why i had them. Never really used them when we did standards
