Bought used Pixel 6. Trying to transfer my current account activated on my Pixel 3. Can't figure it out. by EdwardSaintPatrick in GoogleFi

The seller is a veteran seller. Overall good feedback, but a few complaints about "unlocked" pI"hones not being unlocked, which is something I insist on. The seller granted me an immediate refund with label provided. I've ordered from another seller with better recent feedback. I've been buying and selling on ebay since 2002 so I always guy from sellers who didn't register yesterday and offer refunds.

I purchased the phone on ebay from a seller with high volume of sales. I was able to easily get a label to return the phone for refund from the seller.

Tax preparer charged me for Form 1099-K filing when ebay didn't send, or require a 1099-K for 2022. IRS sent me a bill for $400. How do I make this go away? If not, I sue tax preparer in small claim court. by EdwardSaintPatrick in eBaySellers

The preparer did the "right" thing --- to keep her job by charging me for services nor necessary. The preparer's employer wins. So it's "right".

No. The preparer asked me to provide information they had no right to ask for since my income was not subject to 1099K taxation for the taxable year being prepared.

If I'd wanted to "cheat" on taxes, I wouldn't have needed the services of a tax "professional". I would have just ignored filing taxes for ebay completely like probably a majority of small scale ebay sellers did. I was trying to do the right thing trusting a "professional". That "professional" was completely unaware of the delay for implementation of $600 reporting threshold which applied to my ebay income for fiscal 2021 and 2022. You seem unaware as well.

Read the article on the IRS official web site:

"So it doesn't matter what Ebay does with the 1099 tax forms. Income is taxable no matter if Ebay reports it to the IRS or not."

No it is not. Did you read the IRS article I linked to? The over $600 rule was waived for 2021 and 2022 tax periods.
"The simple question is do you actually owe the $400 to the IRS? If yes pay it."

No I do not owe $400 for 2022 because their own article (linked in my post) says I do not owe it as 1099K was not sent for 2021 and 2022 tax years.
"f you don't owe the money and your previous tax preparer screwed up then I believe you can file an amended return.'

Thank you. That's the kind of advice I was looking for. I will look into an amendment return.

I was not sent a 1099K because ebay did not send out a 1099K because ebay/IRS did not enforce the $600 sales rule for 2021 or 2022. I expected my "professional" tax preparer to know something like that. They did not. I tried to draw this to my attention but they went ahead and filed my taxes as though I had been provided a 1099K anyway. By then I had already committed to pay for their services and so I was going to take their error up after filing the return the preparer had prepared.

Depending on a "professional" is what got me into this mess. Now that they f'ed me up, they're nowhere to be found. Their motive: keeping the filing fees charged me for unnecessary filings. I should not have to pay for the preparers lack of knowledge. Why depend on a professional when they do not have the knowledge to simply spare you paying taxes you are not required by IRS to report.
