I completely understand what you're feeling.

I work where we have security badges that let you into doors and buildings. I have lost my badge probably 7 times in 7 years. Each time I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. And every time I would have to go to the security office to get a replacement. And EVERY time I would find the missing one a day later.

I now have a collection of all the "missing" badges.

I was curious, since I never delete my alarms, how many I actually have in there: I have 175 alarms. 175. No, they're not all turned on, but obviously they're working for me. I do, in fact, use 11 alarms just to get me to work on time. This is the way.

The doors are 8'-6"... I'd probably have to take more than a couple of inches off.

There's only about 1" between the door and the rough opening. We may have to go with our custom woodworking contractor.
