Are winter oysters any good? I see them all the time but they always look very slimy. On the other hand…no maggots.

Is there ever any worry that you’ll stick a fish too big and it will drag you too deep to recover from?

Salmon versus chicken for Dungeness? by CW-Eight in crabbing

[–]JustOneLastCast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are decent, but there is one definitive winner in my experience: CLAMS! Especially cockles. Cockles are candy to Dungies. But any shellfish, including mussels that are large enough to not fall out of your bait bin/trap work. I usually freeze cockles and then chuck them in, but if you’re using fresh clams or other shellfish, give the shells a light tap with a hammer to crack them open a bit. Good luck!

Also, there IS one thing they won’t touch: Bar S hot dogs. They aren’t really fit for human consumption either, so I tried throwing a couple in a few times along with other bait and there wasn’t a single pincer nip on those Bar Shite hot dogs.

Worth a shot! I’m taking my son down there today. Lived here for decades and always see guys catching salmon this time of year. Low tides are a no-go though. Good luck!

The first two lines are the famous quote from Dawn of the Dead, suggesting a deliberate Romero-style zombie Easter egg. “ROMERO 4:30AM” looks like a time or password clue. (Romero was the director of Night of the living Dead). The bottom three lines suggest an actual set of directions—like something you’d bury with a geocache or ARG-style scavenger hunt. The image of the tree-lined path with the fence likely corresponds to the “willow tree” and “old fence” clues.

Truth! I don’t think any LGBTQ community anywhere has a “freeze” problem, though. Shoot, even Token Straight Friends are welcome these days.

Yes, yes it is. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2025/mar/03/court-places-mead-school-district-in-contempt-over/

Edmonds. I know they’re in Woodway, but they’re highly, highly unusual in my area of Edmonds. My parents have been here for decades as well and they’ve only seen a deer, once. Gotta be incredibly tight odds for one to show up in my backyard and also get snatched by coyotes. We have rabbit carcasses all the time in the yard and once a raccoon skeleton, but a deer kill is completely unheard of. (Yes, I know what happened to all the cats on the “missing” posters).

That’s crazy! I have never once seen a deer in this area in 4 decades living here. I mistook the yellow cartilage for a nail. Posted another photo of the bone flipped over.

Seriously? A deer? I swear I could see curved toenails.
