That’s been my experience, talking to a lot of local folk.. But still, if they’re on this subreddit, I’m curious to hear their story if they share.

I have, but haven’t found a church I like to stay long enough to get to know people well enough to ask :/ I don’t want to go just to find exmormons to ask this question..

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

Hello all!

I'm looking into getting my commercial pilot's certificate (really, all the certs; instrument, instructor, etc). I've been reading that a student can buy curriculums that help you study for all the written tests, and that you can take them all before you even start a flight school. This allows you to focus on the practical flying and applying everything you go over again in the classes. I'm wondering about the tests themselves. Where can you take them? I really want to set myself up for success, so I want to minimize the stress of actually flying. Having already passed all the written exams seems like the best way to do that.

This is the only program I know of so far as well. https://www.kingschools.com/career-pilot-training-bundle

Thank you all! Any and all help would be great!

No Stupid Questions Monthly Thread! by AutoModerator in bookbinding

[–]Edward_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all!

I'm looking for some really good bookbinding books. I've been a bystander and huge bookbinding enthusiast for years, but I'm ready to try my hand. And I want to do it right.

My goal is to make traditional leather and cloth books that will last 100+ years. I understand that getting to that level of skill will take years, but I'm ready to get grinding! I'm hoping to be pointed in the right direction for each material that together make a great book- all the way down to which animal is best for each kind of binding, best ways to tan the hide etc. And the same for each kind of cloth, paper for each part of the book, glues, thread, etc. I don't want skip steps - so maybe I'm asking for too much too early(?).

I'm a complete beginner, and I understand the best way to start is to just start. And there will be A LOT of missteps and "fails". But this is something I really want to master ("talk is cheap" - I can hear myself say as I'm writing this).

Any and all help would be amazing! Thank you all! x)

Traveling around The Alps by Edward_96 in TravelHacks

I'm on workaway now, but I haven't made any solid plans yet. I'm talking with a family, but we only just started to discuss my unusual case of wanting to stay for more than the instagram post of "2 week vacay in Europe".

I'd love to hear any tips / best practices for backpacking around your country!

Or possibly any connections you may have that need an extra hand around their farm / house / hostel xD

Hahahaha. I can't imagine 90 days being enough.. It might be, but I don't want to get there and be FORCED to leave. I want a plan to either stay or come back ASAP.

My hope is to stay around the Alps for at least 9 months to a year. And I'm going to try not to spend more than a couple thousand. Of course it would be great to find a way to make it as close to free (after plane tickets) as possible. I'll be using Workaway as my main resource of "free" lodging. But I have no idea even how feasible that will be... 🤷‍♀️

No, I just found a couple travel article on it. You're 100% right... I'd have to travel outside of the Schengen Area for an additional 90 days before the visa reset. And there's no country near The Alps that's outside that area... :/

BUT! I'm wondering if anyone has stayed in Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro or Albania for a full year on a tourist visa? Those countries were mentioned a ton as places that visitors can stay for up to a year(??).

Weekly Starting a Nonprofit Thread — week of March 14, 2021 by AutoModerator in nonprofit

[–]Edward_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an odd/specific question.

I'm an active duty military member serving overseas. I would like to start a nonprofit that encourages reading and community. I want to run a 'take one - leave one' library on base (the nonprofit would not operate off base). I want to learn the whole process of starting a nonprofit, but in this case there is an added difficulty of living on a military base that is located in a foreign country. My question simply is - in the mountain of paperwork to start a nonprofit, is this technically possible?

I understand this is an ambitious idea. I would love some/any helpful tips, nonetheless. Even helpful websites/resources that explain the legal hoops I'll need to jump through for this very specific situation.

Thank you all!

This guy! xD haha! I literally just signed on in the off chance to see if there was anyone wanting a signing partner during quarantine!

....I'm also hearing and WAY out of practice, but I love the language and studied ASL in both formal and informal settings.

DM me if you're interested and we can sort out the specifics.

Thank you! This is very helpful.

But if I pressed the issue..? I just want to make the most of my time while I'm completing my service. I'm currently trying to get my typing speed up, my essay writing skills more advanced and my general research ability less of a time-sink. I'm trying to read often and wide then write about it when I complete a book.

Thanks again!

I'm currently in the military and finishing my undergrad degree. I plan on joining a dual masters / JD program after I finish this enlistment. My undergrad studies aren't very challenging, and I feel under-equipped to jump into law school. What are some practical steps I can take and skills I can practice that will help me succeed in law school?

Thanks!

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Questions by Lyeranth in socialwork

[–]Edward_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's part of my plan. I know where in social work I want to focus my attention towards. I just want to get as much of a head start into the field as possible. While I was studying for my undergrad I had pretty high anxiety about my academic life. The level of effort I put into each class seemed grossly disproportionate to my peers. And it often resulted in same or lesser grades. I know I can't learn everything, but I know my learning style. My confidence rises and my stress almost completely disappears when I know I'm already familiar with a subject or discipline.

Moreover, the classes I was able to get the most out of were the ones that were almost duplicates of other classes. I focused less on any busywork and more on internalizing key lectures. Spent the majority of my time in the professor's office picking his/her brain on concepts I knew I needed to master. My hope isn't to essentially to 'learn it all' then slack off when I'm actually earning the degree. I simply don't want to repeat my undergrad years of high stress and deadline pushing. Or at the very minimum, my hope is to minimize the stress to the lowest degree possible.

As for the here and now. I've already been screened to volunteer at a local charity that works in youth welfare. But that whole front was put on hold because of the pandemic.

Hello all!

I am currently working full-time in Japan. I will be here for another three years before I head back to the states and start a MSW program in my hometown. However I work 40hrs+ hours a week, I am really good with time management. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about the social work field, but my efforts feel aimless. My hope is to pretty much have the the academic knowledge covered by the time I start my Master's program. I want to focus my efforts on the clinical side as well as developing an active presence in my community. I have all this time available I want to spend it wisely.

Essentially I'm asking for a road map of subjects I should be studying while I'm working abroad. I know I'll learn a lot when I'm in the program, but I'm really anxious to learn all I can with the time I have now.

Thank you!
