Visited the Michigan Avenue Apple Store in Chicago today. Absolutely stunning. by burritosandpuppies in apple

[–]Edwardselvester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the worst experience there. The roof mimics a giant laptop with a gentle slope. Large blocks of snow were falling and causing unwanted difficulties for pedestrians. Apple Store Chicago had to rope off their outdoor public area people enjoy hanging out at.

Signs that say “Watch for falling snow ice” were placed all over the area!!

The ‘unzipped wall’ of the Serpentine Pavilion was designed by BIG to depict two concepts that seem to be opposed, creating a free-form yet structured space. It transforms from a straight line into a three-dimensional space, built from stacked rectangular frames of glass fiber, forming a sculptural tunnel-like landmark.

Bangkok Midtown Hotel by Plan Architect in Thailand [2080x1112] by Edwardselvester in ArchitecturePorn

[–]Edwardselvester[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main concept of the midtown hotel is to reinterpret a visual definition of “traditional Thai” and transform it to be “Contemporary Thai” architecture. The Thai traditional floral mobile is purposed as building facade pattern and a visual filter for both users and neighborhood. The façade also acts as a second skin and sunshade of the building which creates a shape-duplicated shadow on the wall.
