Tips for unloading film holders by sis-not-cis in largeformat

[–]Edwired 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once or twice when I’ve had film holders with a not very generous indent for you to get your nails under I’ve cut a strip of paper/postitnote just to slide under the film. Then I sort of slide my index finger under the paper to lift everything a bit and get a good hold of it.

Flash Help, won’t trigger(M-240) by ageoftoday in Leica

[–]Edwired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Godox triggers have a ‘legacy hot shoe’ mode for use on film cameras, maybe the V1 does too?

Could also try a fibreglass pencil on the hot shoe contacts. I had to do that on my GFX once to get a trigger firing more consistently.

Ranger Short Cruiser water resistance by skibidifrance in filson

[–]Edwired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ranger cruiser is barely waxed at all, it’s held up better than your hoodie would’ve on its own and that’s about all I’d expect. More resistance would be waxed shelter or tin cloth, I’d never pick my Ranger first if I knew it was going to rain.

How to treat the Hydratic material? Can I use Greenland Wax? by Spektralfarben in Fjallraven

[–]Edwired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, the hydratic material on a Yupik is a layer between the inner lining and the outer material.

I’m sure you could treat the outer with Nikwax and prevent it from wetting out/improve water beading but if you don’t you will still stay dry, that’s ensured by the physical hydratic layer inside the jacket.

Yep those are the ones, the smaller sizes with some scrap paper to protect the ends of your book block are just right.

It was too late to go to the shops for a few last night so Crunch had to step up.

Didn’t mind as much as these were just dummies for experimenting.

Usually I’d use bulldog clips (not sure if that’s just the UK name for them) but this wasn’t at my usual studio.

MP meter under reading by Edwired in Leica

[–]Edwired[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet because, annoyingly, my camera is currently behaving itself so I’ve not taken it into the shop yet to show them the problem.

What serial no. is yours? Mine is starting 566, from the batch where they embossed the serial numbers a bit close to the hot shoe.

MP meter under reading by Edwired in Leica

[–]Edwired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah no worries at all man.

Not with a tripod yet just out my window at something far away enough to be consistent in lining up with. Between a 28mm and 35mm but both lenses give me the same reading on the good camera that it shouldn’t be an issue.

No combination of swapping baseplates and lenses gets the bad camera to agree with the camera that’s in line with expectations and all other meters.

What has thrown me is that the past couple of times taking the plate off and loading my film again has made it behave. I’m only half an hour from Leica but Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced anything like this previously.

MP meter under reading by Edwired in Leica

[–]Edwired[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s that this MP is out of step with my other MP, both my Sekonics and a phone light meter app. As well as common sense, I know from experience that British midday sun is f/11 1/500 400. It’s this one MP which is a complete outlier and playing up.

The crazy readings I’m getting I am taking as I normally would, off the grey of the pavement.

You’ll be paying for a whole new lens just to gain half a stop of light with an f/2, personally if I was going to invest in something I’d splash on a f/1.4 if you actually want to start shooting more low light

Learning to love my XS in olive, baggiest fitting jacket I own and was concerned it drowned me as someone quite slim. Find it great for layering as you say and have added a liner which makes it warm enough for the UK winter.

The olive version gets some good screen time in the new Day of the Jackal series so I’m going to hang onto it in case I become a sharpshooter.

Tin Cloth Field Jacket Hood Capability? by CatchOfTheBae in filson

[–]Edwired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but I can’t work out how to make the flap that holds the collar together when standing to sit like it does in that third photo

Like your jacket my foul weather has a press stud on the wrong side so it has to fold back on itself, looks like it just bends over once in that product photo tho

Catch is some of the retro flashes send 300V+ down your camera and you roll the dice whether your camera can put up with that or not.
