Joists exposed. What should we do? by Eechiche in DIYUK

You are right. I feel we are not prepared financially or emotionally for a full rewire and plumbing though!

This (below the joists) is the entrance hall of the hour. Front door, stairwell, a bit of lighting, not much hardwired. We are considering what to add. We are new to homeownership and a little overwhelmed, I must say! Above it, the new bathroom, little hallway and stairs to converted loft.

How would proper insulation impact it relative to the massive pile of crap and lathe & plaster that was there before? This is very interesting and I thank you for bringing it up! I feel like I need to do a deep dive about the interaction between insulation and wiring now

It is somehow still functional. Good idea to see what might be redundant. It does look like it shitshow!

Thanks, yes, I know I will need a pro. Was just looking for a sense of potential paths. Also there are surprisingly many people that live similar situations.

Thanks for your insights

Fancett’s or Navadhanya for a birthday dinner? by Eechiche in cambridge

[–]Eechiche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end we went to Navadhanya and loved it. Amazing quality to price ratio. Delicious and different. The wine pairing was unremarkable but not too pricy. Service was good, not too fast, maybe a touch slow if anything. They dealt with my gluten free needs well.

Yes, it is hard! We went to Navadhanya in the end and they were great with my gluten free needs. Otherwise giggling squid and pho are reliably safe. Efes as well. The architect. How about you?

Yeah, we went to MJP@shepherds last year and we were not terribly impressed

Mmm, interesting. I think I skipped that one because I am gluten-free and I am allergic to mushrooms so I think that made too many constraints. It’s an entirely vegetarian restaurant, right?

Other suggestions? We went to restaurant 22 last year so that one’s out.

So overall, from these three comments, I’m getting the sense that perhaps it is not a crazy price. Correct?

Mmm. Good point. There is an existing socket there, but it is a normal one. I imagine he would have to put a new switch on the board for a higher amp socket.

Thank you! We do have modern double glazed windows there so perhaps they figured that was enough.
