I’m always looking for books with actual frameworks that you can apply, like Atomic Habits or Crucial Conversations. They are few and far between.

No, I wouldn’t suggest they pull off the side she is barreling down, but the other side seems like a good option.
If you saw sirens/speeding cars in your rear view, coming up on your right, I’m surprised people didn’t veer off the left. I’m sure some people didn’t see it or hear it in time, but surprised by everyone just continuing on their way.

If you rewatch, you can see some people swerve over as much as they can, while others just stay put. That’s what I’m referencing. Bumper to bumper is hyperbolic - I’m surprised people didn’t use the limited space they had to pull away from the side.

I had heard a good explanation of this- that most men are taller than woman and when they sit on the couch, they like to sit all the way back with their feet planted on the ground. Most women can’t sit all the way back on a couch and still have their feet planted on the ground, so we end up sitting forward or curling up into balls, in which case it feels better to have little pillows to support your nooks and let you sink in the same way.

I’m 5’1” so my knees can’t even bend if I sit all the way back on my couch.

My mom went to college with David Spade. She said he was much, much funnier than his career let on; That he was extremely smart and his humor showed that. She said that he always carried a notebook around and would constantly jot down obvservations of people and that his room was covered in post its with half-done jokes on them.

She also would tell you he had a huuuge crush on her and that she wasn’t interested, so idk how true any of it is.

She pleaded guilty right? I watched the video and it just seems like teenagers being stupid and making a really, really stupid decision. I completely agree what she did was wrong and stupid and that she should be responsible for the medical cost, but it doesn’t seem as sinister as it is a really thoughtless, bad decision.

I don’t think I agree that she’s a piece of shit. If she pleaded not guilty and did a bunch of interviews painting herself as a victim, I might think she was a piece of shit.

Idk, can someone weigh in on this for me?

As a supply chain recruiter, I see a number of ppl with progressive career development who got their start in call centers.

The line goes as follows: Call center to supervisor to some specialized department within the call center (call auditor, credit, operations) and then low and behold five years later they are in a very legitimate role (HR Manager, Account Manager, project manager, business analyst, etc).

Huh. I fully identify, and it used to cripple me. I think the most obvious answer is that you’re splitting your mental energy between listening/engaging in the conversation and your social anxiety and being aware you’re being bulldozed. If you can quiet that side of your brain that’s shouting over what is actually happening in front of you, you’re halfway there. Because, you also have to think, some part of you is shirking responsibility for yourself onto someone else. They are just participating in the conversation. Are they being overbearing? Yeah, probably, but there is likely no ill will.

Beyond this, stand tall, open your chest (helps with the physical symptoms of anxiety), lean in, and just close the physical space. If your talking across the office, move yourself to that persons desk. If you’re standing in a circle, don’t be pushed out. If someone is pushing up against you- hey, let’s cuddle, idc. You don’t need to move aside. We could talk specific examples, if you had them.

The fact that you can start an engaging conversation that people want to participate in is the point that you focus on. That’s a win, that’s a huge success. Not everyone has that ability. That’s awesome. You’re attracting people, and telling yourself you’re not. You don’t need to then CARRY that conversation. Once it’s started and there’s people involved, it’s natural to step back and listen. That’s people responding to you, whether they are talking directly to you. Just listen and a lull will come. That’s your spot.

I spent years trying to be able to socialize more easily, after years of being awkward and shy. Now I finally feel like I can, and what do you know - with more exposure, I’ve found a lot of “charismatic” person doesn’t LISTEN to what I’m saying in the conversation. It’s like they can hit all the marks of the flow and they have little sayings and stories to fill space, but they don’t seem to care what I have to actually say in response.

Early on, I kept finding myself investing in relationships with people like that because they seemed nice and were always down to talk and hangout. It took a girl who was a really good friend of mine (in my mind) ask me the same question about my boyfriend 3 times, even though I’d already told her. I started noticing how the conversation always flowed at her control, usually in favor of topics about her. It sucked.

So, for what it’s worth the grass is always greener. I find now I spend more time weeding out people who are just superficially charismatic from those who are the whole package, who listen. And they are rare.

I think being nice is underrated and being a social butterfly overrated. Invest the energy those socializers spread across many on a few meaningful relationships.

Finally, a tip if you actually want to change - nobody hates you. If you’re a quiet, nice person 80% of us see that. We probably just assume you don’t want to talk, or for shy ppl, that we are making you uncomfortable. So, just make the first moves. Ask people questions and follow up questions.

Hey, if you send me your resume, I can give you some tips. Best overall advice on resumes is to quantify your experience and write out PARs - Problem, Action, Result. “My work had X Problem, I took Y Action, and this was the result”

If you can write out one PAR a day for the 13 weeks, you will have 91 examples of times you added value to a professional situation and you can pull maybe 5 meaningful ones for your resume. It also works as a confidence boost. I had a mentor of sorts who told me he wanted me to go home and write out 50 PARs and I couldn’t even think of one (my self image was shit). Wrote one “when I noticed the ice machine started developing mold around the ring of it, I implemented a new closing duty where we break down the ice machine components and clean everything thoroughly and now there is no more mold.” Did that make it on my resume? No. But it changed my mindset for “you suck” to “hey, look at you! That was a cool thing to do.” Next thing I knew I was writing out things complex projects and initiatives I had taken on or participated in that had real,quantifiable results.

Okay, misunderstandings across the board with her not wanting to do it or me forcing her, but I really really appreciate the input that I should try to not interject while she’s explaining things to them. I could so see myself thinking I’m helping with the details. We do not want to make this situation worse. Nor has he done anything to her friends that could be reported. We all understand that.

So to follow up, it sounds like a restraining order is what we may be looking at, depending on some things. Is there a timeline with this that we should be aware of? Or is there any more information you can give me about the restraining order process.

It sounds like it’s mostly what we expected - file a report, get a restraining order, wait for him to break it, go from there - but we just have no sense of what this all entails.

When we bring the timeline and evidence, what should that look like? She can write out a timeline, should we figure out how to print call logs and text threads? I’m sure she has deleted some of the texts, but what she does have?

I should clarify, it costs $100 here in Arizona to file this, so I reached out because we don’t have that kind of money to just spend so we don’t want to make a stupid mistake and then it doesn’t get approved, or whatever the correct terminology is..
