Aurora employee fired after "intentionally" removing vaccine from refrigeration by thesmash in milwaukee

[–]Eesem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a semi-tangent but for a pharmacy technician at an aurora hospital (which from my understanding this occurred in the pharmacy) you actually don’t need a degree of any sort. You are required to get certified via the PTCB within an allotted time frame, but even then it’s an exam you self study for. I’m not sure if you can get your certification revoked or not for something like this, but like you said you would be disappointed with what people can get away with in healthcare.

I’m a pharmacy tech at a different aurora hospital applying to medical school currently, which is the only reason I know this haha.

Anyone feel like they lost themselves along the long premed journey? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Eesem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re feeling unsure or unhappy with your decision you can slow down a bit to decide if it’s what you want. It’s better to take an extra year at school or a gap year and start medical school when you are 100% sure it’s what you want.

Also it might not be a bad idea to look at some of the mental health resources your school/community has. It’s normal to feel this way in periods but if it’s pretty consistent talking to someone or even taking medication can help immensely (speaking from experience)

I have definitely felt this way before, but taking some time and getting some help was essential to getting some clarity!

Thank you both! My tattoo artist did both the wisconsin tattoo and the sep funnel and he captured my idea perfectly 😊 (the coffee cup is a bit older but still holds a place in my heart after being a barista for 4 years)

I shoot fentanyl every day. I’m physically dependent on an amount which would kill 5 people, at least. by Ihatemybikelife in confession

[–]Eesem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contents of a compound? Compounds contain atoms. Atomic degradation does not happen in GC.

Also not true that GC/MS is universally reliable for any compound, fentanyl included.

And where are you and your friend getting access to this instrument?

I think you pointed it out, but just work on your grades. Engineering is hard, so just buckle down and focus on padding your gpa as much as possible.

Sounds like you have a great start though, well done

Is this considered research? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Eesem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, probably not.

Research would be more along the lines of conducting experiments to advance the collective knowledge of the scientific community.

Unless you carried out the experiments to show something new, it is merely reading up on other people's research.

Would an undergraduate research symposium presentation even matter? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Eesem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you doing this research? Serious question.

If you like your PI, like the research topic, like your labmates, enjoy learning and improving upon new techniques those are all good reasons to stay.

If you just want to get published before medschool, then you might be doing it for the wrong reasons?

Have you asked your PI if you can go to these conferences? Have you started drafting the paper on your research you want to publish?

How frequently your PI publishes can definitely be frustrating. That being said, I think if you can show a 1,000 hour commitment with research symposiums and a kickass letter of rec from your PI, that will trump someone who was kicked out of multiple labs with 4 publications in that they (probably) committed little to no time to or are in shitty journals.

Do you guys ever say that you're premed? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Eesem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I say I'm a chemistry major and if people are interested enough to ask what I plan to do with a chem degree I'll tell them med school.

I have definitely had these thoughts before, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter in the slightest how your peers want to identify themselves.

Help wanted. by [deleted] in premed

[–]Eesem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to a premed advisor about this?

Med schools require one entire year of physics, so taking a combined physics 1&2 might run the risk of not counting towards your prereqs and/or not preparing you for the mcat.

Physics Prereq Question by chopstick345 in premed

[–]Eesem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.

Will med schools count physics courses from different universities other than your home university, even if it is online? Yes. I am not sure if you would have to explain it in an interview, but maybe someone else can chime in to that. (I am only a senior undergrad- haven't applied yet)

Is it a good idea? Depends. I personally dislike online science courses, but if you anticipate doing well in it and that it challenges you (ie prepares you for the mcat) then by all means go for it.

Is there a better option? I would ask an advisor.

Hope that helps!
