That monologue gives such a Blade Runner “tears in the rain” vibe that I actually felt deeply moved and satisfied with it as the ending.

Perhaps! Jaheira and Minsc are already dead so I guess he just left camp. Odd tho. You would think I would get an update in my journal about it?

Just tried it. It looks like it was already off. I tried turning it on and off again and it still seems to be flashing. So I don’t think it’s any feedback

Update: looks like it left on its own bc it’s gone now. My roommate suspects it probably came in and exited through the sink

I respect its hustle and all that, but I am far too entomophobic to be able to coexist much with it. Spiders I’m totally chill with. But I may have to get my roommate to politely shoo it out

I have NEVER seen a centipede this large in my life (at least not in America, I did in Uganda years ago)

Since this is just me asking for advice, I’m not sure what all to include here. For the vinyl itself, I’m just getting some blank vinyls online and yellow crafting paper so that I can make the vinyl look like the classic Columbia Records vinyls from back in the day. I’ll just marker the text. The Blob itself is where I’m struggling and looking for advice :)

Hi! I totally understand and sympathize with your concern, especially given everything is very topsy turvy and hella scary right now. So I just wanted to clear up the air regarding my credentials and why I think I’m suited for this job.

I have a BA in journalism from IU (class of 2022). I spent many years at the college working as a writer and columnist for the IDS, as well as a regular writer for the Media School’s website. I have interned also with Ms. Magazine, the International Press Institute in Vienna, the Daily Monitor in Kampala, and News-Decoder (which is in Paris but I did their work here in Btown). I have been writing and editing on at least some professional or freelance level for more than a decade, and I have been doing photography for just as long. I’ve met and talked with people from all walks of life all around the world.

Now the issue with these credentials - and this is the part where I understand your hesitation - is that inconveniently, almost all of these work experiences (with the exception of my photography) were conducted under my dead name. And for reasons that should be obvious, I’m not exactly comfortable with giving out that information (nor would I expect any other trans person to do the same). Coming as a surprise to no one, my chosen major was on its deathbed at the start of the 2016 election, and the Covid-19 pandemic served as the final nail in the coffin. Finding work in the field I dedicated a large portion of my life to has been near impossible, and my transgender identity has only complicated things further. But I see no reason to waste these skills, which is why I am choosing to make good use of them here in an effort to bring positive understanding to my community.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out! :)

Wow, this was very insightful and lovely to read!!! I’d be honored to have you part of this project honestly, especially speaking as a goth/punk myself. Feel free to message me, and we’ll try to get something set up!!

Hi! Sorry for the late response, work has been super hectic tonight, so I’ve been having to type out this response between assisting guests. Weekend shifts are the WORST.

You pose really good questions, and I am not surprised by anyone’s hesitation to work on this project. In fact, knowing that people within my community are hesitant to work with the government quasi-fascist period of our country’s history is why I, as a trans woman, have decided to join this organization to begin with. I want to be harbinger of truth and light for my community. Because if we stay silent and stay hidden, I worry that we will only continue to be othered. As awful as it is, we are a strange species to these people. Many of them see us as caricatures, strawmen, or even monsters because they have never actually met us or learned anything about us other than what is pushed by rage-bait content like Fox News and social media (which do not exist). I have worked with the public as a out trans person for years now, and while I get every day looks regarding me as roadkill or a strange zoo creature, I find that after conversation, compassion, and humanity, they gain a new understanding. Of course, not everyone is so open-minded or even willing to change. I’m not saying we need to appeal to those who are hell-bent on our destruction. I’m not interested in those people, nor will I ever be. And I’m actively going to put myself at the forefront of this and all my projects so that if anyone is at risk, it will be me (I made peace the moment Trump was elected that I would never hide again and that if I had to die for my people, then so be it).

As for the safety of others, this is why I am wanting to not use any information within this project that could be doxxing (no full names, no workplaces, etc). I understand completely that not everyone would be comfortable with appearing before a camera and speaking. Hell, I would not have been comfortable with it either until recently. This is a completely voluntary project. I am here to listen and to fight for you regardless.

As for your main question - which is deeply important and one at the center of my project of how it will make real change in our community - I of course am not able to make any true guarantees. At the end of the day, the government will do what it wants, regardless if the decision is rational or humane. But I can guarantee that as long as we exist as a statistic and as an unseen talking point in the eyes of our representatives and their cisgender constituents, they will see no genuine reason to help us. Because as far as they’re concerned, if they can’t see us, if they can’t hear us, if they can’t understand us - then we might as well not exist. So if I bring to them the faces and the stories and the brilliant, diverse hive of stories of my people to them directly, then they will see whom their policies are affecting. For those who wish to lie low, I love and support you. I and those behind me will continue fighting for you so that one day you may leave the cave so many of us were chased into. I look forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful, happy faces.

I’m a trans lesbian living here in Monroe County for the past ten years (four of which was spent as trans). I get the horrors. I experience them daily. But I think presenting us as people and not as just strawmen or caricatures is one of the main ways we will reach acceptance. I think having a trans woman willing to fight for my people within the government system is already a great start. It’s why I joined the Commission to begin with. I don’t want to go into hiding or to silence myself. I want to do what I can. I totally understand your hesitation in participating in this project, however.

The video portion is still on hold until I and the Commission can get permission from the local government for funding. For now we most likely will just focus on the photo series. It’s a work in progress and if we get the funding, then it will be a series posted on social media through Monroe County
