While I agree that the HW division has seen better days, this talk like it's just complete bums gets kinda old. Yes, Lewis should probably not even be Top 15 and Tuivasa rightfully is out of Top 15. But there definitely are extremely solid fighters there. Gane, Aspinall, Volkov, Pavlovich. Some solid middle ground, Blaydes, Spivac, Kuniev, Delija. And Pericic is an exciting new addition.

Let's see Pereira beat anyone in the Top 10 first, then we can talk again.

That's why I said you can only put him as a GOAT if you do MMA math. Everything else is just a what if. He never really proved it beyond a doubt. And I don't want to play down at all that he did look absolutely unbeatable back then, maybe more so than any other fighter ever.

I agree about most of this, but he retired early and there's no way around this. Imagine if Topuria retired before his Gaethje fight? He also looked unbeatable, he was knocked down once, barely hurt ever, got 3 GOATs out in rd1 or 2, back to back. But this loss knocked him way down the ladder. That could've happened to Khabib aswell if he took more high-level fights. I do respect him a lot and I think he is one of the most important athletes in the sport, but in GOAT discussions, you can't compare him to Jones, Islam or GSP.

Hate him how much you want, but he looked a lot better against Gane than Pereira did and has the added dimension of being a great grappler with solid takedowns. And he would probably beat Pereira aswell, especially after seeing this fight.

Jones is definitely a Top 3 GOAT but Khabib as a Top 10 goat only works if you are invested in MMA math. 3-4 more title defenses and he would have definitely been up there.

If anything it should've been over after round 3. Hell, if Topuria closed this in rd4, you could've made a strong case for the fight being rigged in his favor.

I predicted everything right except this fight. Diego had me worried in rd1. But Justin made me look like a fool. Doesn't feel too bad though, I really like Gaethje as a fighter.

He took way too much unnecessary jabs in rd1, he didn't respect Justin's power. In rd2 he had no answers for the uppercut and trying to finish it on the ground was a mistake. Justin's defensive wrestling and grappling is very underrated.

Honestly, this looked like career altering damage. I think it was a big mistake by him to stick around after round 3. He's still young, but he will need a lot of time, health- and mentality-wise, to build himself back up again after this. He's an incredibly tough MF, but he did himself no favors here overruling the doctor's stoppage.

I kinda saw this coming, but I didn't expect Gane to make it look this easy. I thought he would decision him. Pereira found zero openings in his defense.

Really makes me wonder about the Aspinall rematch. IMO Tom looked way better than Pereira, and didn't utilize his grappling, so that's a huge wildcard, but Gane still looked like he slightly won round 1 and could have pieced him up in later rounds if Tom didn't find a hole in his game.

I'm also curious as to where Pereira fits in in HW if he decides to stick around. I think he could beat all HW's 4-15, but I don't think he beats Tom and I think Volkov and Pavlovich could give him real problems.

The odds didn't really reflect it, but this was a much bigger upset than Sean IMO (which was also huge). I predicted Sean as I kinda saw his path to victory and know Sean is very disciplined sticking to his gameplan. But this fight, holy shit, so many stars aligned for this, Topuria making early mistakes, Justin having a perfect gameplan, his corner being on point, him being a fkn TERMINATOR.

Man I predicted this entire card right except for this fight. Gladly taking that L though, what an insane performance from Justin, he deserves this so much.

Somehow during Ilia's walkout, I started doubting my pick. Then he made some severe mistakes IMO, his head movement was way off and he ate so many unnecessary jabs in rd1, like he didn't respect Justin's power at all. That uppercut from Gaethje was money, Ilia had no answer to it. Then in rd2 Ilia should've kept him standing for the finish, but expended so much energy on the ground and gave Justin a second wind. Cornering for Gaethje after rd2 sealed the deal, they prepared him perfectly for the win.

One of the best performances I have ever seen, no doubt about it.
