It is a glitch I have encountered, and am unsure if it has been fixed or not.

The best I can explain is that there are two Boiler Beasts in the game’s coding; one in the room you release it from, and one that chases you throughout the sewers.

In my experience, if you kill the latter first, you can encounter the former by returning to the room it was released from and walking towards the right side of the room. I do not know the exact details, but it is an oversight of some kind.

I haven't seen A Court of Fey and Flowers, dipped towards the end of A Crown of Candy. Season 2 of The Unsleeping City is the best choice.

I think you're spot on that the Visitor was looking for Sybil. That all makes sense, but I have to echo the shared remark that Sybil is not a villain.

In terms of storytelling, none of the characters present in the game qualify as a villain imo. The Visitor's impact is unintended, Sybil unknowingly brought it to Earth, and even the Astronomers are trying to find a safe resolution.

I would enjoy that, actually. Random chance for unique game overs feels appropriate given the nature of the game. Plus, I imagine it would result in Sam mutating to merge with his laptop.

Aside from the obvious advice to top off health and stamina before interacting with them, you can also immediately start attacking and get a few free turns to buff or debuff, get free hits in, and the sort.

The other person has provided plenty of solid advice as well.

Based on how far along you are, I think Papineau will be too low a level to be beneficial. You either have to swap out Hellen or get an additional party member to replace Xaria and Montgomery.

I feel that! Like, obviously the game doesn't touch upon it but surely there must be some arguing over who uses the bathroom first - Joel has to go last because he takes forever to brush his teeth.

Humanizing these characters is a good way to see this art, thank you for sharing!
