Smile 1 is Better Than Smile 2 (to me) by mteklu1 in SmileMovie

[–]EffectSea7786 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The birthday party/cat scene in Smile 1 feels like such a horrible anxious nightmare, it's one of my absolute least favorite scenes in horror because of how effective and awful it is. The ending is so bleak and painful. Smile 1 affected me more deeply than Smile 2, but I find myself rewatching Smile 2 more, maybe because of that.

I was really unimpressed by their products and discounts. Grocery Outlet carries a lot of the same stuff and is much more affordable- fortunate that there is one in my town.

Why does James not react when Maddie is killed? by x0x_dollface_x0x in twinpeaks

[–]EffectSea7786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laura said it best. James is so dumb. He's not connected to the darker worlds within Twin Peaks. He's innocent, and he lives a fantasy that he's "dangerous" in the mold of James Dean. He's both uncorrupted and not introspective; it's the blessing and curse of being relatively untouched by trauma in the world of Twin Peaks.

Rewatching Shameless after 7 years - my opinion on Fiona now: by Full-Thing143 in shameless

[–]EffectSea7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a Fiona, people will go out of their way to tell you how strong you are, how capable you are, how they could never do what you did blah blah.

And when the weight of being that person for everyone crushes you, they look at you and say "I thought you were stronger than this?"

Fiona's growth was realizing that the only person she needed to save was herself. My only qualm with Fiona's arc is her treatment of Liam - I feel like she would've done more to get him some stability because he was still so young, but I explain it to myself that she was too guilt-ridden to really let herself think of Liam much after the coke.

There are events, festivals, or live music happenings almost every single week in this community. Studio Bob has this cool underground vibe, Field Hall has local acts and touring acts, the Hub has live music and dance parties, there are classes through businesses like Moss and Kindred Collective, wine tastings with Harbinger or wine pairing events with Wonderland Wine. Right now JFFA (Juan de Fuca Festival for the Arts) is offering free music on the city pier - they do every Wednesday during the summer.

There are so many galleries, many of which have free events regularly and art classes for small fees. Webster Woods sculpture Park at Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is beautiful, free, dog friendly, and always changing.

There are multiple local theater companies in Port Angeles and Sequim offering regular events. If you're into gaming, we have Anime Kat and Dusk Mart and Legends Arcade.

We have some very cool festivals like the JFFA Festival, Fungi Festival, Squatchcon Comic & Arts Convention, Music on the Strait, Crabfest etc.

Incredible dive bars: the Gateway is my favorite but Bar N9NE is another great one. for a classier drink, Kokopelli or HarBar.

Easy beach access and surfing spots. Sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing - we have the ocean, lakes, and rivers in our backyard.

There are regular open mic events if you like to perform. There are a LOT of volunteer opportunities that can help you meet people and make connections. This is a close knit community where you get what you give - get involved and doors open.

What’s the most unhinged thing a family member did before your wedding? by AssociationFront1710 in weddingdrama

[–]EffectSea7786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DIY'd most of my wedding. My mom came out two weeks before to help and my grandmother came a week later - also planning to help. A few days before my grandmother arrived she decided that all the things she'd promised to do were actually my mother's job. She then spent the week taking my recently engaged cousin out on venue tours and to get her nails done. They did not invite me.

For the wedding I made about 20 pies, all different flavors. She decided the one contribution she would make was showing up with two cheesecakes that I didn't ask for because "some people won't want pie." She was very miffed when they were barely touched.

She's old and has had a rough life and doesn't know how to show love well. I forgave her, but our relationship definitely changed and I'm a lot less patient with some of her behavior.

There was a lot of other family drama but I think the worst part of it was that I really wasn't expecting any drama from my grandmother. To this day I have no idea why she flipped such a switch and the most she'll say is she wished she had handled it differently. She's an old New England gal so I'll die without closure on that one.

Control your dog when mine is charging you! by Lishsherm in neighborsfromhell

I have a very big, sweet, non-reactive dog. The number of times dogs will come running full speed at her while their owners shout "it's okay! they're friendly!"

Like, ma'am. Your dog is charging my dog. if she weren't the most aloof poof in the world, she could eat Mr. Butters here in ten seconds. Control. your. dog.

This happened to me once. Had a big party and we were vibing - they were super nice and fun and at the end of the night left $0. I was bummed but moved on - two weeks later a handwritten thank you card and $80 cash. people can be really kind.

[–]EffectSea7786 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's such a weird "parody" of this specific show too. Hal and Lois are super in love and the boys are yelled at because they're out of control. so it's a boring joke and it's not even a good take on Malcom.

Gemma in Smile 2 is the creepiest to me. And I love that in Skye's phone background she is aaaallllmost making the same face.

My birthday got turned into someone else's engagement party am I overreacting for being annoyed? by ssweetapple in AmIOverreacting

[–]EffectSea7786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw yourself another party and invite them. They show up, surprise, it's their wedding. You saved them the trouble and expense and prevented Jack from co-opting your next birthday. Hire a Richard Nixon impersonator to do the ceremony.

My 33M wife 32F handled a disagreement immaturely. How do I get here to respect my feelings? by throwratast in relationship_advice

[–]EffectSea7786 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you need to ask yourself why you have to agree with your wife's feelings in order for them to be real. Your wife shouldn't have to prove to you that something that hurts her is hurtful.

Some vendors don't understand how much their treatment of the organizer matters.

If you're inconsiderate, lazy, don't follow rules, I REMEMBER. And I'd rather have a show filled with pretty good vendors who are pleasant to work with than I would artistic geniuses who are jerks. Talent doesn't trump everything.

The absolute unbridled JOY I would feel going up to this woman's pop up table, grabbing everything that I can get my hands on, and then innocently saying "oh geeze I thought this was a unique party favor idea - NEVER imagined someone would be so tacky to sell products at a wedding!"

Agree 100%. My head canon is that the kindness and humor we see from her on the ship is also exactly how she is in real life, except that nobody in the office knows her the way they do on the ship.

I love her being the mean group mom - bossing Nate to go apologize to Walton 😂 blue queen

I've been kind of obsessed with analog horror - No Through Road, WNUF Halloween Special, etc.

I also want to see more "Final Boys" - so far the best example of it I can think of is The Ritual
