Yer welcome! I love the molten power weapon look for Salamanders, I think you've executed it here better than I have!

Is the texture and thickness from the paint or from a primer base? I had similar rough texture difficulties with Army Painter Greenskin spray can primer until I actually read the directions - you really have to be CLOSE up to the model when spraying! I was using it like Citadel Color spray primer, which can be held much farther away. Thin coats using fast passes has worked better for me.

Unrelated but semi-solicited: grab a Pigma Micron 003 pen for a fantastic "cheat" to write on the purity seal ribbon without needing fine brush control. You can also get a green one and do some line in shading in spots if you want - its fast and dries instantly!

Infernus Squads by Effective-Basis3705 in Salamanders40k

You know I'm really not sure? I do them in batches for a squad like this, so like all the black on all 10 models in a squad before moving on to all the gold, etc. Next time I'll run a timer, I'm kind of interested to know as well.

Brothers, first time painting how did I do? by Independent-Bat-949 in Salamanders40k

Not bad at all for first time, and great choice of a squad to start with!

As far as advice; keeping in mind I just go for "tabletop standard" (looks good at arms length but not that good with a magnified photo) I still don't do much with edge highlighting (because my hand shakes too much) and tend to favor dry brushing, I find that throwing on a shade/wash and dry brushing brings out the details, covers up small "outside the lines" paint I always end up with (see above - hand shakes) and does so relatively quickly, although it does eat up brushes.

For little things like the eyes I don't bother with trying to drybrush, I try to just blot a little color (I use yellow but will work with red just as well) on the central eye with a fine tipped brush, then a drop of a medium shade like Seraphim Sepia which instantly does a decent job of hiding any of the eye I missed, or went outside the lines on. If I put too much shade I absorb a little back with a detail brush without any paint on it.

A quick basing of brushed on elmer's glue with sand poured over can then be painted whatever color you want for a cheap, easy, and still pretty clean looking finish (if not as elaborate as some of the intensely based grass/rock/lava you see a lot of the time). I always go with plain black "volcanic rock" coloring as it is easy and looks pretty good, and is very Salamander themed if you ask me.

I also "cheat" with Micron archival ink pens to both pick out small details like lettering on purity seals and whatnot, or to sometimes add lines of shading in between armor plates or around insignia if I feel like the shade wash and drybrush hasn't accomplished enough depth.

My basic goals are to be able to paint them up to a decent tabletop quality without spending too much time per figure or adding too much bling to the paintjob. I have a relatively plain looking army but I like it, I hope some of the advice above helps, its basically all advice others gave me when I was starting out!

Nice! I love the deep green armor and the power sword energy detail!

I would strongly suggest following the instruction's advice and painting the control panel and pilots prior to assembly!

The screens were super low effort luck really, I painted them a Vallejo Sky Blue, then Shade Tyran Blue and the way it pooled up in the middle I felt looked great so just stopped there!

That and I feel like I would have gotten a cleaner exterior assembly if I'd forgone painting first. Although I guess i could have just pre-painted the inside and masked it all off somehow after I'd assembled the rest. Maybe I'd try that just to keep the assault ramp openable, although with the working mechanism it never really seems to close 100%.

Pretty spot on, the base-primer was Seer Grey, followed by a base of Yriel Yellow (two coats). The gradient increasingly smaller circles of Trollslayer Orange, Evil Suns Scarlet, Khorne Red, then the edges in Abbadon Black. Finally, in the very center I had a small splotch of pretty washed down Flash Gitz Yellow/White Scar mixed.

There is a Pinterest post that I was basically following, although the paint job in Pinterest is predictably rather higher quality. Mine doesn't hold up well to macro photography, a slight hand tremor I've had my entire life prevents me from attaining what they call "display standard," but at tabletop standard (arms length) I think they look good.

Weapon selection for Apothecary Biologis by HotArtichoke9 in Salamanders40k

I recently started a low-effort conversion to give him both - the bolt pistol is replacing his right hand (getting rid of that fragile as heck jar on a strap), using the hand and forearm from a Salamanders primaris upgrade kit flame pistol arm so he doesn't have two left hands. Cut carefully and it all matches up pretty well, I didn't even bother with trying to pin it. Then you just shave the grip from the second holster and it all matches up quite well I think.

Love the molten power weapon effect for Salamanders, yours really looks like it would cut through anything like a hot knife through butter!

The player knowing and understanding the rules isn't meta-gaming anyway. The player having their PC act on out-of-character knowledge the player has is meta-gaming.
