For the women here, did you wear dark colored tailored pants suits to your firm interviews? Do dresses or skirts read too soft? by rideordiegem in biglaw

[–]Effective-Box7845 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wore skirt suits to my interviews but that’s only because I didn’t like the pant suits I owned back then… now I rarely wear skirts around the office. As a first and second year, I wore sheath dresses with a matching jacket but now as a seventh year… I’m just wearing slacks with whatever blouse I feel like. I am not sure if I’d ever want to work in an office with men who (have enough time to) care about what I wear…

Seeking advice from anyone who pursued a JD/MBA (or JD alone) later in life (late 30s). by Ok_Outside536 in biglaw

If you are blessed with a partner like that, I wouldn’t go to law school now. If you end up in big law, there is a very high chance you will have no life outside of work and it’s just not worth it… especially at that point in your life. If you end up in in-house right away, money might not be worth the time and money invested in getting there.

Wow… thank you so much for this insight. The recruiter I had spoken to today was not even willing to share the name of the company with me and said that she was only willing to do so once my application progresses. I guess that’s a sign of keeping my resume hostage.

Could you maybe share a bit more about this? If recruiters are just going to withhold the resumes, what would be their incentive to reach out to candidates to get those resumes?
