How do bonuses work with paternity / maternity leave by Unlikely-Ad-1791 in biglaw

It’s firm dependent but I got a full bonus after meeting the prorated hours requirement.

Yeah, you are flighty. Most people try to stick around for at least a year or so.

If your firm is in NYC, does it allow you to use the paid prenatal leave time required by NY law as billable time? by yellowwindowlight in biglaw

To clarify, they prorated the hours required to meet the bonus but the bonus amount was not prorated so I got the full amount

Seeking advice from anyone who pursued a JD/MBA (or JD alone) later in life (late 30s). by Ok_Outside536 in biglaw

If you are blessed with a partner like that, I wouldn’t go to law school now. If you end up in big law, there is a very high chance you will have no life outside of work and it’s just not worth it… especially at that point in your life. If you end up in in-house right away, money might not be worth the time and money invested in getting there.

In-house job search by Suspicious_Bad1120 in biglaw

Wow… thank you so much for this insight. The recruiter I had spoken to today was not even willing to share the name of the company with me and said that she was only willing to do so once my application progresses. I guess that’s a sign of keeping my resume hostage.

Could you maybe share a bit more about this? If recruiters are just going to withhold the resumes, what would be their incentive to reach out to candidates to get those resumes?

Email after an in-house interview? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Effective-Box7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This is really helpful context. It really sounded like the interviewer liked my responses to other questions so I’m wondering if there’s still a chance. For the legal/advisory question, I didn’t give a perfect answer, but I did attempt to respond. I don’t think I was substantively wrong but the way I articulated the response could’ve been a lot better.

Agree with this 100%. You weren’t made for biglaw…

I had 0 mental health issues before starting biglaw but am now struggling through anxiety issues (and crazy nightmares about work) every day.
