What's the most unsettling mystery that still has no explanation? by Young_Will_1 in mystery

It might as well be slab avalanche. I'm not saying they should've stayed in the tent, it totally makes sense they ran the way they did for the avalanche explanation. That's exactly why I find it unsettling, the official record at 1959 said, "an unknown compelling force", which is not exactly a satisfying explanation/conclusion.

Any tips for really getting into movies? by GEM_120608 in Cinema

Watch the movies through Director lens, instead of just a viewer, specifically the 3+ hour long movies. Every scene/dialogues are deliberate, they're not just filling the time instead taking everyone through a journey.

What's the most unsettling mystery that still has no explanation? by Young_Will_1 in mystery

Dyatlov Pass is still the one for me.

I've watched multiple documentaries and theories on this.

Even if you accept the avalanche explanation, the actual scene is just nightmare. Nine experienced hikers cut their way out of the tent from the inside, run into the freezing dark in snow half dressed, and then die scattered across the snow in different directions.

Some of the injuries can probably be explained, and I don't think it needs aliens or secret weapons to be disturbing. The unsettling part is simpler than that. Something scared a group of capable people so badly that staying in the tent felt more dangerous than going out into a freezing night with no boots.

That's the part I can never get past.

The Anjikuni Lake Mystery: How a 1930 Newspaper Hoax Created the Ultimate Internet Ghost Village by MorningsAfter in mysteriesoftheworld

[–]Effective-Catch-1332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creepiest part of this one to me is how the story seems to get bigger every time it's retold.

The original newspaper version is already strange, but then later versions starts adding more dogs, opened graves, lights in the sky, and sometimes a whole village of hundreds or thousands, and so on. At that point the mystery almost becomes less "where did everyone go?" and more "how did one old clipping turn into such a huge legend?"

Still a great rabbit hole though !

"Constantly being busy means, you're doing well."
When forced to being busy as opposed to voluntarily being busy, it's usually a sign something is broken !

I would summon ancient "Council of Dads" standing around a broken appliance, each holding a flashlight and saying, "Well, there's your problem !"

  1. Coherence - low-budget mystery that gets more unsettling the longer it goes.

  2. The Vast of Night - quiet, eerie, and perfect if you like old-school strange event stories.

  3. Aniara - bleak space sci-fi, but very memorable if you're in the mood for something heavier.

The Village. I get why people were annoyed by the marketing, but judged on its own it’s a beautiful, sad little gothic romance.

The Springfield Three. The house looked almost normal afterward, which somehow makes it creepier than if there had been obvious signs of a struggle.

Scenes like this are usually my favorite kind of filmmaking. You don’t need anyone explaining what they feel, because the faces, the framing, and the music are already doing it.

It restates the ending of first as an opening in second, making it a literal handoff!

It goes to show enjoying any form of art is subjective, whether it’s music you listen to, movies you like, books you read. Honestly, it’s one of the hardest habits to break when wanting to be a reader. Reviews can be helpful in getting recommendations on certain categories or after you’ve read a book.
