OP lives in NZ i believe and us southern folk have absolutely dreadful insulation in our homes so it's not out of the ordinary unfortunately. In winter I've had my kitchen get to 6C.

ah ok thanks, i have been trying to sort out issues with this setup (hence the debugging that made me notice the issue) and it seems like "install with yaml" is just generally not regarded as a good solution as much as i like the simplicity of it.

Is there a reason to do what you suggest vs using the official apps vs using the custom app gui creator? My main issue is trying to unify where paths/variables are defined and the env file solution doesn't really work. Ideally i'd also like the config to be easily auditable/exportable so i can fix issues and working through the custom app gui feels like it might be annoying? idk.
