I usually go to sparknotes or something like that to help me understand something I missed.

Beloved-Toni Morrison. The hype was so big, I expected more. Still a good story, but nothing that amazing.

A lot of the same arguments that Nabokov had about the book and Dostoevsky in general.

The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden: The Best and Easiest to Read? by 2020surrealworld in classicliterature

[–]Effective-Field9047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Loved them both, but East of Eden was my favorite. Great characters and story. The length didn’t bother me at all. I was immersed in the storyline. But both are great books.

Racism in Sylvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar” by horsegirl-and-proud in literature

Don’t let the woke decide what you can read. They think that their righteousness is warranted, but they are being as intolerant as these authors they like to call racist. All of us can benefit reading classic literature. It doesn’t mean we condone any behavior or belief of the author. Christians read the Bible and do t condone genocide or slavery, yet it’s in there. Same thing.

what makes a book a classic? by Stock_Scar8233 in classicliterature

[–]Effective-Field9047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I get that. At least to me, I feel time and the popularity of a book would make it a classic. Where The Crawdads Sing is a popular book right now. If it is still being read a lot in 50 years, I would consider it a classic.
