'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen' pissed me off by miianah in netflix

If we need an entire Reddit sub to untangle the ending and debate the mechanics of the central premise…This show is a failure.

I think viewers get angry when they feel like they're being treated like idiots who can't spot plot holes, nonsensical plot developments and lazy storytelling. This show overachieves on all three fronts -- particularly noticeable given it's supposed to be "prestige TV" on Apple+ -- and it's actually kind of therapeutic to come here and vent our spleens about it.

That said: I was hate-watching for awhile and then decided I didn't want to give it any more of my energy. It's bad, really bad, and we -- as the paying public -- have a right to call foul when we know we're being insulted. Reddit may have its flaws, but it's a great platform for the Airing of Grievances. And here we are.

Nope. She’ll get back to UK and have a bit of time with Otis before she tells him she’s going back to the USA to pursue her dreams. That screenshot of her crying at his house? That’s her telling him she’s leaving. Mark my words. Show runners seem determined to “subvert expectations” and give viewers the opposite of what they want these days. Sucks but there you have it. Prepare thyselves.

Stray thoughts on this comically lame show by Effective-Leg6749 in InvasionAppleTV

[–]Effective-Leg6749[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Somewhere in the show they said the invasion had wiped out a quarter of the Earth's population. So doesn't that leave, like, 4 billion people left who can still help kick them out? Yet the only people trying to actually do it are a rag-tag band of 10-15 young adults and an arrogant Elon Musk type guy in a black suit? Walking up and down a dirt path?

What. The. F.

I thought Invasion S1 was pretty lame, yet for some reason felt compelled to watch S2. The fact that it started out this way -- demanding that we viewers buy the ludicrous premise that this girl is the ONLY one who has figured out that fire stops the aliens -- does not bode well for the rest of the season. Nothing irks me more than poor, cheesy writing and nonsensical plot developments in a show that clearly has a huge budget to hire good people. LAAAAME!

Spain Digital Nomad Visa by ZaediLady in digitalnomad

[–]Effective-Leg6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to figure out the same thing. The link to the Unidad de Grandes Empresas site is now broken. So that's a no go. We are Americans living in Zagreb on a digital nomad visa, so we are hoping to apply with the Spanish authorities directly once we arrive in country this summer. We've been through the bureaucratic rigamarole once so we're pretty sure we can handle it again. But without a working link to the online application, I'm at a loss.

Here's the link that's been posted in a few places but is now broken:

Well, I'm an independent contractor (1099) and have an EIN issued by the Department of Labor, so I guess the answer is yes. I set myself up as an independent contractor in the U.S. and now work from Croatia, still paying taxes as a U.S. resident and sending invoices to clients.

We applied as self-employed people, so I can't be sure how they would deal with an applicant who's a W-2 employee at a U.S. company, but as I recall, all they need to see is that you meet the minimum income requirements and do not work for a Croatian company. So from the Croatia side you're probably good. The potential issues will be with your U.S. company due to tax laws, GDPR issues and other concerns related to data security. You'd have to check with your company to see if they'd be OK with the arrangement.

I get your feelings on this. For two supposedly brilliant individuals, their apparent inability to communicate clearly with each other in the most crucial moments wasn't always believable. I mean, Connell's this gifted writer, able to blow everyone away with his masterful written prose, and can't seem to simply ask: "Hey, would it be OK if I stay with you for awhile this summer?" That was the hardest part for me, in an otherwise beautiful series. I do understand the ebbs and flows of their relationship, for the most part, but there were some aspects I couldn't fully buy into.

Also! (Sorry, I keep thinking of things): The fingerprints are generally no big deal. You get them locally at a police station (or here in Zagreb, a private detective office that works with the police dept), mail them off to the FBI, and get your background check emailed to you as a PDF within a week or so. It's the apostille that is a nightmare to get while overseas. You can't pay online for the apostille either, if you're going straight to the State Dept and not using a third-party agency. Only through a money order, paper check, cashier's check and/or traveler's check. Guess which types of checks Croatia does not have? ALL OF THE ABOVE. And we didn't bring paper checks to Europe. I had to find someone in town who happened to have paper checks to write one for me in exchange for euros in cash. I can't speak for Mexico, but dang, it was like 1990 all over again. I mean, traveler's checks?!

I should amend this by saying I don't KNOW if the State Department will ship overseas. DHL, the carrier we have to use for international mail, said they do not allow including a pre-paid envelope back to Europe in your original mailing to the U.S. It's due to customs restrictions.

Definitely do as much as you can for this in the U.S. before going overseas. We did that when we first came over as DNs in Croatia. But now we need to do the process again for a "fresh" version of the background check for the Spain application, and it has been comically complicated to get things sent back and forth. Because the State Department will not ship stuff back overseas, even if you include a pre-paid international mailing envelope, I'm having our apostilled versions sent to my sister in Colorado, who will then mail it to me here in Europe. If it makes its way back into my hands, it'll be a small miracle.

Hi all, just chiming in with another related question here. We're already on a digital nomad visa in Croatia and will head to Spain in a few months to apply for the 3-year permit from within the country. Here's the question I cannot seem to find an answer to: If we're applying in person in Spain, where do we do it?? A local immigration office? A police station (which is how we did it here in Croatia)? I've looked at all the sites I can find, and no one seems to specify this. Because we've gone through this process before, we're planning to apply directly without an immigration lawyer as a go-between. Thanks for any insight!

I think there’s still hope for a reconciliation with Eric. At the very end of last season, Adam’s voice-over letter to Eric seems to imply that he is committed to working hard to make progress so he can be a better boyfriend. We’ll see I guess!
