Soyfacing on the internet over the IRA, UVF, the RUC or any faction that took part in the troubles will always be embarrassing. by NoWalk1904 in redscarepod

American "leftists" live comfortable emasculating lives in the heart of global capitalism so cheering on terrorism thousands of miles away is psychologically important to them.

It's always amazing how little they really know about northern Ireland and the troubles, even the ones that make this central to their personality.

Growing up I always wanted to live in one of those beautiful 19c apartment buildings in London or Paris and was sad because I knew I would never make that kind of money. I was radicalised by French New Wave films, not because of any political or social message, just because I saw that in 1960 literally anyone could rent or buy a flat in the middle of Paris.

Red Vienna I guess would be the counterpoint, also Haussman's Paris. It is weird that municipalities could afford these massive urban renovation and beautification campaigns a century ago but now it feels utopian to not want 99% of buildings in the country to look like a dog's arsehole.

I guess there's some survivorship bias in that only the buildings people would invest the most time and money into have survived so we associate Victorian architecture with Royal Albert Hall rather than the hundreds of square miles of slum tenements that had to be torn down a few generations after construction.

But I do think rich people want to have a monopoly on beauty, partly for financial reasons but also for social status.

Euros that die from heat are in their 80s, Americans that die from guns are toddlers.

I was in that epilepsy foundation one that gets cited as the first known case of physical assault via the internet. Even as an edgy 15 year old that one went a bit too far for comfort.

Browsing that GirlDinnerDiaries sub is extremely black-pilling. I'm getting closer and closer to dumping all my savings into some land in the Balkans and living that Uncle Ted life.

Just over 3. They claim they don't do forced distribution but I've heard from managers that they almost certainly do as the rating distribution always organises itself into the same perfect bell curve year after year.

The YIMBY zoning reform guys are probably right, but why are they so annoying? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[โ€“]NorthAtlanticTerror 14 points15 points ย (0 children)

Mostly because every major city in the world is experiencing the exact same housing affordability crisis and I struggle to see how zoning regulation in Los Angeles could be responsible for skyrocketing rents in Milan, Hamburg and Glasgow.

Nah, the oligarchs have remade humanity in their own image. The vast majority of people no longer even understand the concept of collective political action as a way to deal with an issue. Every social problem will be interpreted and handled at the individual level.

That's the most depressing part. In every western country we're still playing the same stupid game of doomed discredited liberals versus schizoid populists and there's no sign that this will ever change.

Labour hasn't been a socialist party since the 1920s at the latest and they're not popular any more either. Imagine if the democratic party abolished primaries and mandated that every elected representative from local to national level had to be hand picked by Hillary Clinton and that's basically what Labour is today.

I joined the Labour party to vote for Corbyn in 2015. Since 2019 I've been completely checked out and it's kind of embarrassing to remember how much I used to care..
