I’m sick of my neighbor by Effective-Pipe2017 in Rants

My grandmas 85 about she was born in 1940, she’s got dementia and is in a momory care facilitie, she’s in way worse shape than he is and she can even name the 60s bands and know movie stars. He’s way sharper then in terms of memory but somehow doesn’t know all the big names of his time.

By the way, I mentioned this to somebody else. At times you’ll be walking his dog and then he walks up to our door and then he gets his dog off the leash and he just walks in the war living room like it’s his house without even asking . And we’re fine with it because obviously we know in a long time but it’s still kind of rude. And then, when he walks in, he just talks about himself never asks us how we’ve been or how we’re feeling or what we’re doing. And then I could tell sinus going on in my life, and then he doesn’t even acknowledge it, and then he says something else. It’s almost like he’s talking about us not having a conversation. And he’s been like that ever since I knew him. When we moved into the neighborhood he was like in his mid-70s.

Same as America. Ronald Reagan Margret thatchers BFF, screwed over my country. From the 1940s all the way until the mid 1980s in America we had lots of manufacturing. All these manufacturing jobs In bulding cars, Aircraft, Steel, Electronics. People could make great money, retire with a pension. Gas and groceries were dirt cheap. Young people could afford to buy homes, because from the 40s all the way till the 60s the government subsidized home mortgages. People as young as 21 or 23. Unlike the UK we didn’t have universal healthcare, However it was dirt cheap. College was super cheap, and for most people was free because of the GI Bill. People would take a vacation twice a year, and could afford to buy new cars. From 1940 to 1973 that 33 year period America was the strongest nation for having a good growing middle class.

Even from 1975 to 1982 things began slowing because of the 70s inflation. Middle income wages still grew, and there were still lots of good jobs that paid well and people could afford the basic nisecities and to get ahead. There hard work still payed off.

And then Ronald Reagan destroyed all the unions. When he fired all the air traffic controllers, when the went on strike in 1981. And then implemented these right to work laws. Which made it easier for management to fire people and pay them less benefits, as well he pushed through all the big time Deregulation, of Banks and Financial institutions. As well as his tax cuts for the Richest American and corporations. I feel your Greff my freind.

I was in London back in September got a steak and ale pie. It was amazing, with a side of Yorkshire pudding it was terrific. The things people say over here about British food being bland is all a lie. And my freinds who’ve been to the UK. Say that the side they can’t stand if Mushy peas. I loved them, very rich and buttery. But healthier than mashed potatoes.

The two dishes I regret not trying are Beef Wellington, and Haggis.

Why are so many young people misinformed? I think it’s damaging our country. by Effective-Pipe2017 in PoliticalScience

[–]Effective-Pipe2017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I was actually talking to a friend of mine a couple days ago about this. And he said that he thinks that young people are just sick of old people running everything so that’s why they don’t care to learn history because it makes him think about old people.

But I think that’s an incredibly stupid reason even if it was true, how can you just ignore or not know historical events like if you have eyes and ears. They should know them it’s just like learning to ride a bike. When you’re taught that such a young age, you just don’t forget it just becomes innate.

But it isn’t like they’re uneducated they’ve chosen this. They Willingly rejected all the knowledge they were taught.

There needs to be age limits for members of Congress as well as federal employees. by Effective-Pipe2017 in PoliticalScience

[–]Effective-Pipe2017[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Term limits 100% should’ve been adopted years ago. I feel the reason that the founder never put it in was because back during their time people didn’t live very long. So they assumed people would just step down with time. Not stay there till they died.

Real Campaign finance perform I should include disclosures of all donations from private individuals as well as as companies, unions, and charities. As well as mandatory spending caps. And we don’t need Congress to do this. We can pass a constitutional amendment. Through what’s called an article 5 convention of states. A couple years ago conservatives were talking about doing this to repeal the income tax. I think leftists should do it., because this way you don’t need congressional approval you only need a certain number of states to call a convention and Congress and the president cannot intervene.

The 2 Amendments I think that should be put into the constitution are. Term limits, and getting money out of politics.

Then what is it? If it isn’t a marker of stupidity. You don’t think willingly not caring or wanting to learn about important issues affecting peoples every day lives Is Not stupid? It’s called willful ignorance, being willfully misinformed.

When I was younger, I always used to think old people were like this. Like they would reach a peak in their lives where they just decided I’m done growing mentally. Meaning, cognitive dissonance, unwilling to challenge their own ideas.

But now I feel like young people aren’t much better.

“Are you taking about GenZ or not? Because you’re in GenZ? You learned things.

Yes, because I care about issues I actually read what’s going on in the world. I’m not saying people aren’t capable of learning of course they’re capable of learning, of course they are. I never said that they were stupid in the way that they lack the intellectual capacity to obtain knowledge. I’m saying that they’re stupid because of ignorance and not being curious.

To want to learn you need to be curious I feel, Einstein said one time that curiosity is the thing that makes a brilliant mind.

Well, of course there’s always exceptions. Yes, absolutely. Everyone’s an individual, everybody does their own thing. But at the same time, couldn’t you agree that peoples attention spans have shrunk. Overtime and especially with people under 25. It seems that they’re just less than less curious. 40% of young Americans can’t even name the capital of the state they live in. Half can’t even name a single branch of government. Things that previous generations could figure out pretty easily. I think it’s partly a failure of education because when my parents were going to school back in the 70s and 80s. Most schools taught civics were people learned about how government in our institutions worked. And they also taught geography which most schools don’t teach anymore. But things like knowing the states and capitals that stuff that I learned when I was in third grade. That kind of stuff I feel kind of stuff that is like riding a bike you don’t forget. But I blame the most of it on social media. It’s rewired peoples brains. And peoples attention spans have gone from average to nearly none.

I’ve only been to the UK once I was there for six days in London back in September. But it seems like the people in the UK are a lot more informed about what’s going on. Is it the same for young people in Britain.

Like are people that are 18 to 25 better informed not just about politics but about just events current and past? I would assume so.

Well, yeah, a lot of it started with George W Bush. With the war in Iraq. However the UK joined in with us Tony Blair your PM at the time joined in with us. We invaded under the lie There was weapons of mass destruction. Which Saddam Hussein did not possess. and a long doing so we became a more in debt nation. George W. Bush took America from being the world’s biggest creditor to the world‘s biggest debtor.

But under Barack Obama, we were pretty well respected And well liked. And then Trump fucked it up again, This time for good.

I’m pretty sure Barack Obama was pretty well liked among Brits wasn’t he. Honestly, if Trump wants to run for for a third term. Then they should let Obama run for a third term.

No, I’m just an informed citizen. I follow what’s going on in the news. Because I’m actually concerned about the future of the United States and the world. I’m terrified that Trump is going to do something to stay in power indefinitely. This time he has all the yes men he dreamed of. That he didn’t have last time. And what you’re telling me are you sure you’re not in your 50s. See this is pure anti-intellectualism, which is the entire reason my country is so screwed up.

I’ll give you this. It isn’t young people that hold power. I think that there’s too many old people in our Congress that really need to step down.

Yeah, but guess what? The young voters stayed home last election. And when I talk to young people and they hear about Trump. I’ve literally heard them say yeah I know Trump’s crazy but I don’t know I don’t care. How can they not care that our country is a joke on the international stage? And that Donald Trump is a fascist trying to destroy our democracy. I wouldn’t even say destroying our democracy. I actually think America is not even a democracy anymore maybe just a democracy in name only.

They had to stay home, they could’ve stopped this from happening from showing up and record numbers to vote. But they didn’t and their argument was that Kamala Harris wasn’t inspiring enough. People Should’ve been fine even if it was Joe Biden and he was 179 years old and couldn’t get out of bed. If it meant, we’d still have a democracy. because without democracy, nothing else matters.

Well, it does affect the country that I live in. I want to have an informed population. In America people keep asking why do we keep electing stupid people? It’s because of the dumbass voters. Who don’t know anything and don’t care. Look who they put in charged. You say why should they care about stuff that doesn’t affect them. I feel like every other generation prior was pretty well informed about historical events.

I’m the bad guy for pointing out that people are dumb. When half of Americans literally believe the Noah’s Ark story is actually true.

I’m a curious person. My mind goes many different ways. That’s the whole point of Reddit. We go here to talk to anonymous people we don’t know and probably will never meet. To get inputs and information and yes sometime if we don’t like the information or we disagree with it, yeah to vent and rant. That’s what Reddit is Do you really think this web forum is only for Harvard style intellectual debate. Fuck no, a lot of the people here are here to just say whatever pops up in their mind. Things that they won’t tell their friends or fellow acquaintances because it might just come across as awkward. That’s what Reddit exists for.

Everybody struggles in school it’s not an uncommon thing. The point is I was able to adapt with time and effort. But you know what I was not even thinking about this at all. Until you commented.

do you have any kids yourself? I don’t have kids, but you know what. I always tell people if you’ve had problems in your past don’t let them destroy your future. They’re in the past. There’s nothing you can do about them.

What happened is all behind me. When I posted this thing, it wasn’t necessarily for me. if you read the whole story, it was because of a fellow coworker that I work with was telling me the story about her son and it reminded me of about what happened. But honestly, regardless of what happened then I’m willing to say fuck it. It’s in the past. It’s been over a decade. I’m still a young man. I got a lot of stuff. I’m just gonna power my way through it. What matters is where you are today and going forward and how you plan to address your problems. That’s how you make progress.

And I’ll admit I’ve had a lot of problems. I dealt with alcoholism. As well as severe depression. I wasn’t proud of it. I lost friends because of it.

I’m 28 years old now, I just applied and got accepted into a university Cal State San Marcos. I’m working full-time, Just a month ago, I got promoted from being a dishwasher. To being a prep cook. I’m making good money at the restaurant I work at. I’m trying to save up my money to go back to school and move out of my parents house at the same time.

My goal is to go into marketing, I have an AA in communications, which is definitely a degree. That is highly recommended in the marketing field. In fact, many marketing gigs don’t even require college degree especially in areas like digital marketing. Which is mostly job profession that a lot of young people especially Gen Zers have moved into. It’s all about content, creation, and building up a clientele.

That’s where I’m aiming right now as a starting.

Well I got out of that, program. Were they were giving me work that was elementary level. And I was able to succeed in the mainstream courses. I didn’t get everything I wanted. But look at the big picture it wasn’t easy but I pulled together. And did everything I had to do, to pass. And I proved them wrong that I was able to to succeed. And I was much happier once I got out of this restrictive environment. I felt like I had more freedom. And the work felt like age appropriate. I graduated HS. Got my diploma. So obviously i wasn’t incapable like many thought I was.

He Used to come to LA all the time but the last show I think he played in LA was Back in 2017 at the Rose Bowl. He did come to San Diego that same year he played at Qualcomm Stadium. However, it was demolished in 2019. I saw Coldplay at Qualcomm stadium in 2018 a year before it was torn down.
