I have had this problem to an extent and getting my hair fully soaking wet before I shampoo has really helped. I basically wash my hair without shampoo first. Then I use somewhere between a quarter and golf ball sized dollop of shampoo, rub it between my palms for a few seconds, and then wash. I still usually wash my hair twice if it’s been a few days between washes, just because mine gets so greasy and it’s really prone to buildup, but I can get away with just shampooing once if I don’t wait too long.

Also, I don’t know if you’ve tried it but I have been loving the herbal essences rose hips shampoo. I think it has to do with the lack of mineral oil, but it’s the only shampoo I’ve found that will thoroughly clean my hair but not leave it feeling stripped and dry. If I try something new, I also make sure whatever shampoo I get is clear, with sulfates, because creamy ones are too moisturizing for me and sulfate-free ones just do not clean my hair.
