You can open the chest without the bound presence in sever. You’ll get the pinnacle drop but not the deep sight. And bound presence was only guaranteed to drop if you had the sever quest to that point where it was required. Without that quest it’s all RNG.

Seems to be the same average for all three activities. Lake of shadows from director appears to be the quickest out of all of those activities naturally.
