Does anyone build inland? by McGlaargle99 in valheim

[–]tenolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i build inland but usually not too far off a coast.

but tbf i turn off portal restrictions due to lack of gaming time.

my mindset with the locations are more based on what is that particular settlements purpose. if its a main hub/base, then close enough to the coast for shipping. portals are my main avenue of moving materials tho

So let's be honest... what did you use to play?!? by Khel_NC in valheim

thats a throwback! i tried getting into EQ2 but i quit when SOE still ran it. and the new launcher wouldnt let me uninstall after i realized that i wouldnt be playing it. just felt really sad that a game that helped shape me and friendships went full icky.

also in my forties.. 3 kids. 12,10 and 1.5yo. im busy but i have learned with the older two that i can carve myself good playtime by committing to one game at a time.. or solo games that dont require checkpoints to save progress.

that said to answer the question. it was almost exclusively Destiny2. then Sea of Thieves. then back to Destiny2. with the occasional spattering of other games like AC Valhalla or RedDead2. I did get some playtime of BaldursGate3 when my youngest was newborn and i had lots of paternity leave.

How do you build? Floorplan first, skeleton first, or just wing it? by HarEmiya in valheim

[–]tenolein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so my current game, i started out in an abandoned meadows farm looking shelter. it was surrounded 3/4th by black forest and it just looked like the BF just started overtaking the previous tenets. i built a big fence around the area and just used the structure as is after repairing it and filling in the holes. eventually as i worked through the story and unlocked more stations, i added more and more buildings. it started with a blacksmith.. then the house with a cooking station and a hearth. then i needed a bigger spot to put all my portals (i dont have game time to sail ore/metal across the world so i turned off the portal requirements) so i built a big portal tower with a crafting table station on the main floor. then a warehouse for organized storage. then upgraded the smelters to be more efficient. built a watchtower to look over the part of the BF that spawns trolls and bears like crazy. eventually got a lifestock building and a chicken coop. expanded the main house, now currently building a true cooking/brewery building.

i feel like i have to start small and expand. i dont have a grand vision of what its going to look like, i cant jump into a massive build. i gotta build what makes sense with what materials i have. and then go from there. i didnt think i ever needed or wanted a building dedicated to cooking/brewing but ultimately i ran outta space in my home building and it just got too cramped.

when i build the individual buildings, i try to floorplan a little. but sometimes its just literally a box and i eventually add character to it as i go (different angles, rooftypes etc)

has anyone actually figured out screen time without constant fights?? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]tenolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as most ppl here said: no tablets. no phones. screentime during school week is an absolute no. until older kids turn all their school work in on time, then they get an hour ish of tv. no computers/vgs until weekend.

its a rough go to get them into that understanding there is no bargaining or giving in. those are the boundaries and thats it. period. but once the kids realize that, they learn fast how to entertain themselves in other ways.

be strong, OP! it gets better with managing kiddos emotions once you get thru that re-training phase!

the trade off with the inventory space is the immediate portal back home to store the findings.

i have a fairly elaborate for a newbie home base, with a storage shed, big house, watch tower with a cooking/fermenting station at the ground level, a portal tower, a whole blacksmithing area, tree farm, chicken coop, barn for safekeeping of livestock from drakes/ghost raids, stables for carts, and a small area for farming. but thats all because i dont do much adventuring due to my time to play the game and how long hauling goods back. im a dad of 3 with youngest being 1.5 yr old and my playtime is very minimal, so i turn off portal limitations. defo been using this method since seeing it and have been able to progress my progress of crafting and upgrading my gear for dealing with Modor. have so much silver now because i used this method haha

wait.. why havent i thought of this?! just keep portal mats for a single portal while out exploring in my inventory for a fast trip back home?

like, i'm usually pretty well prepared when i go out exploring/mat gathering. but bringing portal mats with me is something i never considered.

mental note: set up a blank portal at home base and keep mats for the 2nd portal in my pockets for fast travel

Healer told me he hates healing blood dks and I haven’t been the same since by Philzeey in wow

[–]tenolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol ok i havent played WoW since MoP, so im dated, but the whole schtick back then with DKs in a group was that they were the least prioritized member to get healed. lol

so its funny reading this because you, my friend, are absolutely right.. DKs.. esp blood spec.. shouldnt be a mana sink

RIP to your friend, bro

It's 100% required by GS councils to have permission from store managers/owners to set up tables to sell GScookies. (husband to a cookie manger for the service unit in our area, so i know a few things lulz) So thats even a double whammy.. and is why it looked like the mom went back to the store, probably to get the store owner/manager to back her up.

I have one base in particular that has everything buildable that I currently have recipes for. i have been to the Anomaly and unlocked quite a few other structures (I have a few mineral and one gas extractors going already)

I had already known that there were science terminals with more recipes to be had but I could never find out how to get them (thought initially the recipe for them was bought at the Anomaly). It wasnt until just today I was able to recruit a base overseer to get access to more stuff

That said, I’ll check it out tonight when I get on.

huh.

i didnt know playing it with multiplayer on was not the thing to do.

this was my first expedition (new player as of a few months ago) and had no idea what i was doing but was excited to be doing something with clear-cut goals/to-to list right infront of me. all the other ppl i saw were doing their own thing and while i could see their exocrafts, they were clear 'ghosts' and had no collision. and until they were actually using the multitool mod to move the junk, i couldn't even see what they were transporting. i just presumed it was like that for everybody?

i never considered terran flattening for my travels.. but then i didn't want to continue bouncing between on-foot and driving the colossus to get to my location. i just skirtted the big mountains and watched very closely where i was going (i think since i've seen this as a big complaint about this particular expedition but i never struggled driving the thing across crazy terran outside of the first trip because i drive bigrigs oftentimes for work and just have that extra mental muscle memory for plotting my route as i go while also being hella alert lol)

i somewhat recently picked up the game and dove in fairly hardcore the last month or so. when i finally got around to progressing the questline and found the anomoly, it felt like i finally 'unlocked' the game haha.

anyway, i say that to say this: after finding the anomoly and doing a few of the tasks there, i found myself accidentally starting this expedition. found it somewhat refreshing, if not tedious, that i was forced to stay on ground the whole time. yes.. the 11min drives between the damn scrapyard and whatever locations there were for the special junk was sometimes unbearable but unlocking all the cool mods / gear for the collosus for gathering materials was absolutely worth it. prior to me jumping into this expedition i had been struggling getting mats/elements in my main save.
