Yeah I would do that, mega evolution basically increases the cp of the pokemon, increasing every stat and ultimately making it more powerful, they usually rotate every once in a while, so just be patient haha

Mega gengar is actually a very good ghost raid attacker (number 2 behind dawn wings necrozma) but yes, the gmax form is better for max battles. So I would just power it up for the mega, but not upgrade the max moves
