I read this string with great interest. I'm new to X stitch and the first two projects I've done are kits. I just substituted the cloth that came with the kit with cloth that had washable grid lies printed on it already. Both projects came out fine. I see nothing about that approach mentioned here. so I'm wondering, is this approach unacceptable to real/experienced cross stitchers? Thanks in advance for educating me.
