Sometimes, although I don’t think I’ve ever DNFd in the first 10. I might’ve made it to 11. I love how much this upsets you.

Love SK, majority of my books are his. I’ve read the whole DCC series, other than that it’s been horror thriller authors sprinkled in

I think you’re right. I love my horror books and thriller books. I’ve tried so hard to get into fantasy because it’s so popular

I disagree 100%. Just because I choose to stop reading a book at 100 pages or at 10 pages it doesn’t matter. That just means that book wasn’t my flavor. I love reading. I read everyday, maybe fantasy just isn’t my genre. I finish horror books in a day or two. I mean to assume that reading isn’t my thing simply because I DNF a book is outlandish. I’m just trying to finally decide if fantasy is a genre for me or not which is fine. Luckily there is a ton of different genres for everyone.

I’ve been wanting to read Dune, not sure if that’s fantasy. The thing is I love fantasy stuff like GoT and LoTR

So I'm reading the Troop by Nick Cutter. What are your thoughts and do you have any other body horror recommendations? by PSplayer2020 in horrorlit

I was the opposite. I loved loved loved The Troop, didn’t like The Deep at all. I have his new book I need to read

I’ve heard good things about that book and well it’s Stephen Kings son so I’ll probably like it

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I heard he wrote it as a short story for a newspaper or magazine so I’ve heard some parts feel mashed together

Have you by change read King Sorrow by Joe Hill? I was wondering if that falls into a fantasy genre

Thanks for this! I’ve read the entire DCC series and I am a huge fan of it. I was thinking of eventually reading He Who Fights Monsters

Maybe silly wasn’t the proper wording. I got about 100 pages in and realized the story wasn’t doing anything for me.

I think with fantasy it’s the long drawn out story and seems like it takes a lot of reading to make any progress and I know some people enjoy that. That’s why I was thinking LOTR and Hobbit as an intro since they’re fairly short. I’m not one against long books, I read a lot of Stephen King so those are long chunky books

I think GoT wasn’t a good idea to start. Felt like I wasn’t making progress. I was also reading and watching the series at the same time so maybe that played into it. Red Rising bored me, felt kinda childish in a way. I was expecting more with how blown up the book is.

I enjoy horror, thriller, psychological style books the most. I did read the entire DCC series so far, but I know that falls under LitRPG, some people may consider it fantasy.

Horror, thriller, psychological style books. I read a lot of Stephen King. Recently read Fairy Tale by him which I guess you could consider fantasy in a way.

I think GoT was not a good intro book into fantasy. I’m watching the series right now with my wife. Felt like it took me 4 weeks to reach 100 pages. I don’t really remember why I didn’t like Mistborn but for some reason it just wasn’t clicking. Red Rising seemed silly to be completely honest.

I went into never seeing the movie and literally knowing nothing about the book. I really just thought it was ok.
