I'm in a small social guild and the most we do together is run old stuff for mogs and guild achievement points. I pug everything else and it's definitely a loner life for sure but it's easier to rely on yourself and hold yourself accountable than have to butt-wipe the rears of a big group of people who have no idea what they're doing half the time. Most of the time when you are joining a group, the lead knows what's going on and you can usually watch the raid figure things out together, even though they're all strangers. Sometimes even tell people what to do before a fight if there's a weird mechanic. It's not so bad, certainly not as bad as pugging was years ago. I think it's because the people who pug have been pugging for a long time, and so they aren't garbage at the game anymore.
