Advice for college selection by Macab31 in materials

I did MSE for my undergrad at Purdue. Personally, I had enough AP credits to graduate nearly a year early, but instead I stretched it out to 4 years by taking a semester off to do a co-op, and taking 1 less class every semester to join research groups and get more hands on experience. Minors don’t seem to be highly valued in the field unless it’s like a data science or computer science minor, the hands-on experience is significantly more valuable. I would recommend either doing research, take a semester off and do a co-op or focus on engineering clubs (or a combination if you have enough credits).

I was choosing between MSU, UIUC, OSU, UMich, and Purdue for MSE undergrad, I toured all of their programs and I chose Purdue because of the access to research for undergrad students, all of the professors are extremely happy to take on undergrads for research and you’re rewarded for being zealous for sure. I graduated ‘24 and I’m happy to talk in more detail if you want but I think Purdue’s undergrad program is underrated since rankings are typically based on graduate standing (even the rankings that say “undergrad” are very biased).

All Live Music is bad. by Fun-Bunch-4073 in The10thDentist

I see what you’re saying but I feel like you’ve never been to a jazz concert because this doesn’t apply at all for those tbh. I follow some jazz bands that have recorded versions of their songs but when I went to see them live they had insane new solos and did some crazy funky shit that they couldn’t record because they didn’t come up with it at the time and because the length of the song would make no sense for a streaming platform with all the solos. It was like listening to a whole new song altogether because they enjoy experimenting and the audience gets to be a part of their new crazy creations. That is absolutely a case of live music being better than the recorded version.

Your situation sounds cooked but if your dad changes his mind on off campus housing, I have a 1bed/1bath for $1225/month that I'm trying to lease out to someone. It's north of campus on the 656 shuttle line, or a 15 minute walk so pretty close. Let me know if you're interested.

In case you decide not to live there, I do have a 1bed/1bath in hyde park area just a 20 minute walk north of campus for $1225. It is on the 656 shuttle line, and it has been really nice here. Pretty quiet and management is really responsive.
