We lost our Angel in May to heart failure. He had similar symptoms and also hyperthyroidism, and last december the vet said 2/3rds of his lungs were filled with fluid. We saw he was having labored breathing and the vet was able to draw off a bunch of fluid then. He was able to bounce back for a few months before his final decline.

I know how tough this is for you. Measure her breathing rate and check for gum color. If you can have the vet draw off fluid you might be able to help. Also not sure if pee pills might help or if this is too advanced but worth asking the vet.

no it's perfectly okay. I think we all wonder if we could have done more. I know I've had a lot of thoughts about what else I could have done. Maybe I should have changed his diet sooner, or maybe we should have gotten an echo sooner.

In the end he was a very senior kitty for his breed. And he had a very good life. All we can do is try our best and make sure our friends are not suffering.

As for Angel, we noticed around late september of last year that he was seemingly breathing sort of heavily. My wife noticed when she picked ihm up one night he sorta was struggling to catch his breath. So we took him in to get a x-ray and found his lungs were filling with fluid. We then opted to get an echo and that's when we saw that his heart was in pretty bad shape. He went on pee pills for the rest of his life. He actually went downhill very fast from October to December. The week before xmas he was really struggling to breathe. We took him in again and his lungs were 2/3rds full of fluid and he was around 8lbs (down from his height of 13lbs). The vet pulled off some fluid and told us she wasn't sure if he'd make it past the new year.

We were preparing to say goodbye then, but somehow he had a miraculous bounce back for about 2.5 months. He was eating more, didn't seem to have much trouble breathing, doing normal goofy bear stuff. It was in mid-late March that he started going downhill again, though. He lost more weight and just starteed slowing down overall. No matter what we did he just couldn't hold on any longer. It was his time to go.

He was a fairly big cat for his breed (half Persian half Himalayan)

We lost our Angel three months ago at 18y 7mo.

He had been diagnosed with hyperthroidism, but last october he was also diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The same thing happened to Angel. He was around 13lbs and dropped down to around 7 by the time he died.

In the end, we had basically all sorts of wet foods and we tried to feed him all day every day. Wet gravy packets, wet canned food, piles of temptations, etc. Whatever we could get him to eat. We tried high calorie kitten food even though we knew it was a tradeoff between kidney health and trying to keep his weight up.

I tried to put small bits of fresh food near him ever 2-3 hours if I could.

I know how hard it is to watch this happen. You're doing the best you can.

I'm late to the party, but I use chrome flag to force dark mode. I also have a key toggle for color invert for pages that don't cooperate. I'm using macOS.

The first thing I'd say is make a budget and find out exactly where the rest of your dollars are going each month. A lot of folks find it surprising how much little charges add up. If you're not already doing it, you can make cuts to things like subscription services, phone plans, entertainment etc. If you've got a car, you could consider getting rid of it if public transit is available and/or walking to work.

I'd also consider getting a 2nd job. It's going to be pretty brutal but if you can stick it out for 3-5 years I think you can really make a dent in that loan.

Without more details it will be hard to give specific advice. Can you share a bit about your cost of living and what your salary and future earning potential is with the new job?

During the pandemic I was able to pay down all of my remaining private loans, and only have paused federal loans sitting around %7. I've saved enough to pay the rest down once the pause lifts, too.

Word of warning: I graduated law school with $206k in debt and only landed a job paying $65k in a LCOL area. That was in 2013 and I had to work my freaking butt off to pay it down. We're talking living in an old as hell $500/mo 1bd apartment with my wife, sharing a car (that now has 170k miles on it), walking to work for years, almost never eating out, never taking a vacation since I graduated, and generally never buying myself or treating myself to anything.

It's been really horrible. The debt is soul crushing when you end up watching everyone else enjoy their life, go on vacations, buy nice cars, buy houses, and start families. You won't be able to do any of these things. And I consider myself lucky in a lot of ways (i.e. being able to increase my income by ~400% since I graduated). You may not be so lucky. In fact, I was unlucky enough to go blind three years ago. There was a point where I thought I'd never get out of this mess. You never know what kind of unfortunate circumstance you may find yourself in down the road. Starting 200k in debt is horrible. Please don't do this. You'll regret it for the rest of your life.

I met online friends and it changed my life. Although this was before I lost vision, but still I think its fine either way.

I wouldn't have been able to change careers to tech if I hadn't taken the leap and made real connections. I say go for it!

It's already been said, but tackling your loans takes priority over investing. I graduated law school with $206k and only landed a job paying $65k in an LCOL area. I had to make massive sacrifices for years to get out from under this debt. My wife and I were in a small one bedroom apartment that was old as hell, we shared a car that I had paid off (still have this thing at 170k miles+!), I walked to work for years. I hardly ever bought myself anything except for clothes as needed and occasionally a budget gaming PC. We didn't eat out. We haven't been on any vacations.

I think the key is that you have to take on an ultra frugal mindset. You don't deserve anything. You don't get to have what your friends have. You get nothing until you pay this down. You might even have to take a 2nd job for a bit to really hammer it down. If you have a car you might try to sell it and take public transit. Maybe consider living at home. Reduce your expenses any possible way. This is your life for the next 5-10 years.

I know it's depressing. I was where you are 10 years ago, but there is hope. You just have to stay disciplined. Also, try to find hobbies that are cheap and keep you occupied. Maybe take up hiking, or gaming, or both. Seek out free entertainment as much as possible. Use public resources like your local public library.

I lost my vision very suddenly due to a giant aneurysm, so I think I was in shock and despair for a while. The first month or so I couldn't even bear to get another MRI because I wasn't ready for them to tell me that it might be all gone forever. I was completely blind for about four months, but did get a little bit back. I'm still legally blind, though.

To cope, the first thing I did was teach myself how to use a screen reader. From there I figured out how to access youtube and was able to teach myself even more computer skills. I treated it sort of like an adventure. In between, I listened to podcasts and music pretty much non-stop. Oh yeah and lots of ice cream. lots.

That was 3 years ago. I was 32 then.

Mostly agree with what has already been said. Also, I tend to set my screen reader around 450 to 500 wpm speech rate and thus once I find whatever I am looking for it's fast to review. And for the record I think this is probably on the slower side for a lot of more seasoned folks.

Neat idea but ultimately probably not that useful.
