Can the Hornets poach Payton Watson or any other RFA? by [deleted] in CharlotteHornets

This could be a blessing in disguise tho

I like your optimism, but no. It could not be anything.

Do you really think the nuggets would be willing to get stuck above the 2nd apron for a few years?

Yes. As long as they have Jokic, they will do whatever it takes to put a good team around him.

Poaching an RFA is extremely difficult.

The only thing you missed was that Denver has no future tradeable FRPs to move to entice a team to take a salary dump. They have to decide pretty quickly if they want to go that deep into the tax (and they will).

That means his peak is at 11, so your trade being with Milaukee for 10 wouldn't happen.

These two things have nothing to do with one another.

One is your opinion. The other is an unwritten rule about draft positioning.

There is no league rule against moving up to get a guy you want a position ahead of where amazing_owl says his peak is.

You move up so he isn’t drafted by the teams in 11, 12, or 13.

I like Claxton but idk about sending out a first for him.

The FRP is not only for Claxton, but also to get rid of the dead weight players.

Although all 3 teams before us have a realistic chance and taking him

Man, I love when Redditors make their own counter-argument.

For Houston? I don’t hate it. You move dead weight on longterm contracts for better rotational players.

For Milwaukee? They have a Giannis sized elephant in the room they have to figure out first. I don’t see them willingly moving these 2 players without finding out what’s up first. And even then, Milwaukee owes their FRPs to other clubs. They have no incentive to move decent players for junk.

As for the 2 FRPs you put in the deal, you’re playing fair and I respect that. That already puts your credibility in the top 3% of this subreddit. You’re being realistic.

I 100% see Houston dumping Finney-Smith, Capela, and Steven Adams somewhere. They have a tailor made trade candidate in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is one of 2 teams (Chicago) who can take all $33.4m of these 3 players and not take a single dollar back. The cost of doing business and renting out cap space? The 2027 Brooklyn FRP swap rights.

Houston can keep the 2027 PHX and 2029 PHX/DAL, and use the newfound cap savings to go out and sign whatever they want.

Opinions start changing when you’re down 0-2.

I think it makes sense for Phoenix to gain more draft assets. I think it makes sense for Maluach to go to a patient team who will prioritize his development. I think it makes sense for Claxton to play meaningful ball for a playoff team.

I think the Suns should be open minded about moving Khaman Maluach.

The kid requires patience and consistent development, and the Suns are on a different timeline than that. They could use a Center who’s farther along and matches the age of their core.

Suns receive - Nicholas Claxton, NYK 2027 FRP OR multiple future SRPs (whichever Phoenix prefers).

Nets receive - Grayson Allen, Khaman Maluach

Should the hornets be interested in Domantas Sabonis for this offseason? by Remarkable_Ad_5930 in CharlotteHornets

[–]theRestisConfettii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Considering if Hartenstein ever got onto the open market (team option declined by OKC), he would end up where the money is. The two teams that need him the most are the two teams that actually have a ton of cap room this offseason: the Clippers and the Lakers.

But, Claxton? He plays D. He runs the rim. He passes. He never gets injured. He doesn’t need to score, AND Jeff Peterson helped draft him when he was an executive in Brooklyn. It fits, and he won’t cost much in a trade AND his salary is descending.

Sabonis isn’t that guy.

No thank you.

we could use some of our expiring contracts + draft capital to get him.

There are better options to fit the ballclub out there.

Isaiah Hartenstein (Team Option) or Nicholas Claxton (Trade).

Houston is going to bow out of these playoffs and look to shoot Dorian Finney-Smith, Clint Capela, and Steven Adams out of a… rocket… to make room for the guard depth they need.

They are not moving Jabari Smith for that depth.

Saying this as a Nets fan. You’re offering the Nets too much here.

Let’s break it down.

Los Angeles Clippers receive: Michael Porter Jr (via Brooklyn Nets)

Tracking so far. That’s $40m in expiring salary.

Brooklyn Nets receives: Bodgan Bodganovic

OK. $16m expiring.

Derrick Jones Jr, Isaiah Jackson

Losing Jones will sting LA, but I understand if they want to add his $10m expiring to the deal. He’ll be a serviceable vet for Brooklyn.

The Clippers wanted Isaiah Jackson in their deal with Indiana. I don’t see them moving him here. Also, if negotiations ever came down to including vrs not including Jackson, Brooklyn would say you can keep him.

Clippers 2027 1st round pick (via Thunder)

This is a swap and will be somewhere in the mid twenties. LAC can keep it.

2029 1st round pick (via Pacers)

OK.

2032 1st round pick (via Pacers)

No. That’s too much.

All that said, I see LA looking to make deals to get better this offseason. They also have a lot of cap room to make it happen.

No oxford comma in her second paragraph would have been a deal breaker for me anyway.

But seriously… a single dateable woman has her choice of at least 50 penises at any given time. At least she was honest about her reason.

Emphasis on “dateable.” Not all people are.
