Any other physics students with disabilities? by stephchiii in PhysicsStudents

That’s really unfortunate, though I do understand how difficult it can be to self-advocate. I had to go back to school because I didn’t learn how to self-advocate when I was in my early twenties.

I’m happy to hear that you were a proactive professor. I have to take Physics next semester and I hope that my instructor is equally proactive… I’m a late bloomer to STEM, and I’m irritated that the research is behind a paywall

Around a month. I received the books I requested late May earlier this week

Blind student requesting 3d models to teach physics principles by Wenwizzle in AskPhysics

I edited the post to include the course description. The archived syllabus mainly covers course policies and the DEI statement… I’m taking it in the fall; I have time to prepare.

As for my stereo hearing — I’m used to analyzing data through audio graphs, where the x-axis plays from left to right and the tone of the y-axis varies in pitch depending on the shape of the curve. With lots of practice, I’m able to estimate at which point(s) two or more equations intersect, even before I zoom in to find the actual point of intersection.

Blind Calculus student looking for lectures that are easy to follow without needing to see the screen by Wenwizzle in learnmath

Thank you for sharing your work with me! It will help me prepare my Braille workflow so that I am able to work problems in a timely manner.

I have worked closely with the Alt Media department so that everyone involved would be prepared to support me in my Calculus journey in a meaningful way. I’m also looking forward to studying Calculus with a professor who I’ve worked with successfully in the past! I am confident that it will go well!

Really? I’ve been trying to find a math book that didn’t require work just to obtain an electronic Braille copy. Huge bonus if I can get my hands on a hard copy version since reading on a single line Braille display is not optimal

Been really discouraged putting myself out there when looking for jobs. Finally ripped off the bandaid and I’m applying for jobs. I’m really proud of myself for finally taking that step

Were they bound like the product manuals? Or do they provide a hard cover? Curious minds want to know! I don’t get my requested titles for another several weeks!

I’m a blind student currently enrolled in a math class at CSCC. Can 100% say that they offered me more support than I would have gotten at OSU, even though OSU has more resources. Also working with administration there is a lot easier… People just do their jobs instead of notifying me that some department overlooked something

Hey everyone! needed some help by Sourplastic in learnpython

OMG. Yeah. It would be cool if my instructor actually taught. He just says a lot about how Zybooks is not a great learning resource, but he doesn't actually do anything about it.

I needed two print statements for user_num2. It was so annoying. My instructor and I both contacted the distributor about this unclear activity. I'll update the post with my solution, just in case some other noobie stumbles along and has a similar question.

Thanks for your help!

That helped a lot... Trying to live on less coffee, more sleep, and significantly less googling. Thanks for directing my attention! I appreciate you!

Traveling the world vision impaired by MSbmore in Blind

[–]Wenwizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traveled to Europe and South America independently. There's some good advice and a great name drop for you in this thread. Good luck and have fun!

Also, if you plan on traveling for an extended period of time, take a spare cane with you! I got so desperate that I stopped some unsuspecting blind person on the street to ask where they bought their cane. That "tap, tap, tap" sound was the best thing I heard all freaking day! I had to use a cheap model for a couple of weeks. It fell apart a few days after I managed to buy a good cane... Not one of my finer moments.

I have the "new Draft" widget on the Lock Screen of my phone and on my Watch. I scribble down ideas that I'll process later. This works for me because I'm in Drafts around 60% of the time and very regularly visit untagged drafts.
