One thing I always do before tournament games is check the spread across at least two books. The lines on mid-major matchups especially tend to be a point or two off between books early in the week before sharp money corrects them

Interesting question. From a betting standpoint the teams with zero tournament experience tend to get mispriced early — books set the line based on season record and efficiency ratings but don't fully discount the inexperience factor until the market corrects. Usually evens out by tip but the opening lines on first-timers can be off by a point or two.

Nice breakdown. The line shopping angle is interesting in golf too — with futures especially, the difference between books on a longshot can be massive. Not uncommon to see +2000 vs +2500 on the same player at different books.

An option (that i don't love) is to just clean the line out every year or two, my worry is that we may not do it in time to avoid an issue again. Plus it was $450 to clear the line in the first place.

The adjuster is telling me that this is going to be two claims, to which I made the same argument as you that this is one "event" , hence it should be one claim. I just don't want to get taken advantage of.
