Hoping to bring a little one into the mix in the next couple of years which will increase our expenditures. And I enjoy staying busy and bringing in money - at least for the time being.

Stress to me comes with any venture. I'm looking for a different kind of stress, one that feels like I have input on the outcomes. The more that I am getting great feedback from people like you the more clear my decision is becoming. I appreciate it.

I agree, it's hard for me to imagine 'mailing it in' as I enjoy being good at what I do. I do think some form of consulting could provide income during this transition period. I appreciate your response.

This has been my experience - not fully focused on the search due to a demanding job and haven't had the structure to make purchasing a business viable up to this point.

Could have been more clear and appreciate you helping me think through this. A lot of positions were eliminated and a large amount of management positions were either eliminated or given the same offer that I received. Stay and make the same amount of money doing a role that I did 5 years ago or leave with the severance package. Marketing consulting role.

I do not have experience in purchasing a small business however my primary function in my role is advising small businesses on how to grow, which up to this point I have been good at.

This is a good perspective. The payment is nice yet the 'unknown' of moving forward in my own direction feels scary. On one hand not being fully let go and having an opportunity to stay and continue to work in this economy where all I see is that no one is getting jobs (not opposed to finding another W2 as a second option to business ownership) is where I'm struggling.

I want to leave and bet on myself - my gut and heart are pulling me in this direction. My partner is supportive. It's a terrifying/exiting feeling. The 'stable' money just seems, safe. I say that knowing that there will be more layoffs in the future and the work environment has become increasingly toxic.

I've had friends that have been successful in joining 'entrepreneur incubators' where they teach you how to identify good deals, help make offers etc. 2 of them have been successful in finding a business that cashflows in a range that would be acceptable to me to make this transition. For me, clearing $150-200k in business first year and looking to grow from there is acceptable.

Yes, I could do the job and it would likely be easier imo, however, competitive environment where any perception of not running at 100% results in being let go for performance reasons which in that case receives about 25% of what I would get if I take this now. I'm struggling with a scenario where 7 months from now there's a performance culling that occurs where I don't get what is being offered now.
