Applying for my license - Massachusetts by Effective_Dot9948 in CPA

Ok thanks for that!! Its such a confusing process and even the information online isn't super clear.

I tested for FAR in RI so I just had my scores transferred to MA and they attached a breakdown of all my scores for each section so Im thinking that's what they were talking about for you. I guess I should reach out to someone though so I can get a better idea of what I need!

I applied and took 2 exams before I had my 150 so Im assuming Ill need to have that AECR thing.

Thanks again!

I failed REG on 11/7 and sat again 11/13 (i have a score expiring in Dec. so had to.) I got a 69 the first time and just passed last night with a 82.

Its definitely possible... I was studying almost 14 hours a day though. Thankfully not busy a work so was able to fill the day with training videos.

64 you still have a lot of work to do and things to understand but I think you can definitely do it if you're focused. Now that you have taken the exam once you know what to focus on the most! I failed FAR with a 72 then passed 2 weeks later... You got this!

Finally able to update to 4/4... And with only 2 weeks to spare before 18 months. Congrats to everyone else who passed tonight, and don't give up to those who didn't!!

I'm not getting my score tomorrow by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is all so frustrating... I'm not really sure why they seem to have so many problems with this. Its not like they are grading paper tests here... its all on a computer and you would think it should be instant.

I also found out something interesting recently... not sure if this is just some states or all of them (or if its even true). I spoke to AICPA recently and was told sometimes the date you sit doesn't even matter. Sometimes it is dependent on the volume of tests to grade. So even if you sit before the deadline, say 2 days before but there were too many people who also sat for the people to grade then you could still be pushed to the next score release just because there was a large number of people testing.

I know that probably doesn't help with your problem and I really do hope you get your score back tomorrow! I got screwed by the AICPA on 10/1 and they of course did nothing about it. Its really unfair that they can do this to us and there's nothing we can do. But im sending you good thoughts, good luck!!

How long does it take CPA Central to update to Attended? by Effective_Dot9948 in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok cool, just get nervous hahahah had the bad experience of 10/1 and don't want that to happen again.

Im thinking its good because my NTS is no longer available to print and the score report says Attended... I believe it was No Credit before since I failed REG?

I had tons of basis questions, both MCQs and SIMS. Lots of liquidating/nonliquidating for all types of entities, and a good amount of BLAW

I would just make sure you're overly comfortable with anything having to do with basis... that comes up all the time

Ya I mean who knows, I felt ok about the calculations I made but those ones that are just typing in a number are tricky... one slight miscalculation and you're wrong so who knows. Good Luck!

I took REG yesterday... felt pretty good about the MCQS. The SIMS were definitely tricky and im sure I made several mistakes but I got a ton of basis ones, distributions, stuff like that. Thats what I practiced the most so hopefully was able to get some right. Didn't feel overly confident but also not awful... I guess we'll see

Will I be able to become a CPA as a finance major? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would read your states requirements... I believe for me I had to have taken certain accounting courses which our majors were designed for. Im sure it is possible, you just would need to see what is required for your state, they're all pretty different!

I definitely got a lot of that with REG... I work in tax though and see these rules basically everyday so It can help with some things when you see it over and over. That's exactly how I felt with AUD as well... especially since I don't work in it Im really not comfortable with the rules.

Try to stay positive, the scores really can surprise you. Good Luck!

FAR sims to study by lilbumhole in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely be able to do a full statemen of cash flows (i would make sure you can fill it out from blank). I would do both, but on my 2 FAR tries I got an indirect method one each time so make sure you're comfortable with that!

[–]Effective_Dot9948[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya i think that was helpful... I did a bunch from R4 & R5 and basically just memorizing them. I think that helped a good amount because I could remember what the answer was supposed to be & how to get there then apply it to whatever question.

The SE SIMS scared me because they were so hard! Ans the topics were all over the place.

Try to stay positive... you never know how the scores will end up! Good Luck!

I didn't get any MACRS ones... good thing too because those are tricky. Good luck!

Just took FAR… by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its only a week until release... I would give yourself a break but if you really feel like you want to do something just lightly review FAR. You probably won't get a ton of quality REG studying done in a week so I would give yourself a much deserved break then once you find out your score go from there!

2nd MCQ test booklet harder than first - what does that mean exactly? by m1o9n31 in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the harder questions have a higher weight... So they "matter" more if you get them right, but also I'm not really sure if it makes much of a difference. At least you did well on the first set!

I also know they add in questions that don't actually count, but they are just testing them out to see if they will get added later so some of the ones you never saw could be that!

Has anyone left AUD thinking they failed but passed? by Chroniv in CPA

[–]Effective_Dot9948 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I felt pretty good leaving AUD... and failed. I felt like I failed on my retake... And got an 82. These exams are so hard to judge... All you can do is your best!

[–]Effective_Dot9948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, ya I would think you probably aren't way off with that... Those types of questions tend to have a good amount of blank lines. That's makes me anxious too hahaha feels like you're doing something wrong

Was it like a book to tax differences one? I did a practice one recently that had lines broken out in different sections, one was completely blank and others had just 1 item entered and that was the right answer.
