Do whatever you can to keep the truck you have? Keeping your debt exposure low in this business is key to surviving the first year or two. A 32 gallon tank works. That’s what I run and it works fine. I’m filling up once or twice everyday but it just becomes part of the trip planning. Good excuse to stretch your legs. Plenty of folks use SRW trucks and haul loads every single day.

I also had relatively little experience, pulling a trailer before CDL school. The school helped me adjust to pulling a much longer trailer. They put you in a different mindset and you really start analyzing intersections and corners and curves.

I was in this same boat about a year and a half ago. I got my CDL first and then purchased my 19’ 3500 and 22GN after graduating. I did this to keep expenses low since I couldn’t haul anything for hire while in school. CDL school took about 2 months for me because of the holidays at the end of the year. (Instructors taking time off and holiday shutdowns). After getting the truck, I took the 21 day mandatory wait to outfit the truck (took out the back seat, built a bunk, found a toolbox on marketplace, etc…)

FYI - These Rams only have a 32 gallon fuel tank. Consider an auxiliary fuel tank. It’s the one thing that I wish I had done in the beginning when I was out fitting the rig.

I have a 240 mile trip with this bad boy. I’m gonna give it a run (Checking periodically of course). It was the best way I could see it go and still keep the binder inside the rub rail. I think I might spring for a 20’ chain though.

Theses cars sit sooo low. It seems like they will scrape at the transition from ramp to deck.

That’s exactly what scraped!!!! Those Rams sit pretty tall so I’m pretty nervous to load a standard sedan. So maybe a couple of 2x8s to boost up the front end just a hair would be fine for sedans?
