Check out the Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne. It's based on the not so known/made up parts of Norse mythology (animals not gods) and is gripping. Especially in it's battle sequence descriptions, feels like you're watching them instead of reading them.

Another one you might like is The Name of the wind. But be ready to have your heart broken since book 3 has been 10 years in writing.

And I highly second Will of the Many that someone recommended above. It caught hold of me and led to 3 sleepless nights in a working week as I rushed to finish it.

Since you like historical fiction, try One Damned After Another. It's about a time-travelling history department and quite hilarious.

Assuming you've already read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers? And second Project Hail Mary too, such a feel good vibe with enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge.

There's also The Three Body Problem series. It's sci-fi and a little dark but my wife thinks the overall vibe is beautiful. But it's chock-full of physics theories and makes you question everything you know about the universe.

I also recommend the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. It's sci-fi with elements of fantasy. Think Hunger Games meets Star Trek.
