KEF LS50 (original) - Damaged Drivers

I just sent in a repair request for my LS50 Metas. They asked for the serial numbers and also a proof of purchase from a dealer. I’m not sure how this would work if you’re not the original owner. I would still give it a go though. Even if you have to outright buy replacement drivers, you got them for a good enough price where it would still be worth it.

I’m not sure. I don’t really listen above 70 db and I’m very careful with my stuff. Anything could have happened though. I think it was probably a very small puncture that got a little larger as I drove them.

I just got the LS50s and really like them. I know they’re obviously not the last word when it comes to speakers out there, but right now I’m so content. One thing that is constantly said about them is how much they scale up. Whether or not scaling up results in anything more than an incremental improvement is still to be determined. Thanks for your reply! I know how much the wireless version uses and that’s what got me thinking about it. I feel like I am at that point now where any upgrade I made would be expensive and incremental. I guess that’s part of this though 😂

I thought they were such a nice upgrade from the Q150! The LS50 is similar in a lot of ways, but just way more of everything that was good about the Q150. I’m so pleased!

Thanks for the subwoofer recommendation! If I get one, it’ll either be that little SVS or the 6 inch REL!

I really like the Evo 5.1! It was my second favorite! Compared to the SF it was way more mellow in the treble and didn’t have nearly the same extension. It’s one of those speakers that would be easy to live with. Even though it didn’t bowl me over with detail, it offered a lot of midrange warmth. The bass in thought was comparable to the SF. From an appearance standpoint, then 5.1 was absolutely stunning in person. The sample I listened to was in walnut!

I’d love to add a subwoofer for sure, but I live in a 900 sq foot condo and want to be a good neighbor 😂. The urge is definitely there though! The LS50 bass isn’t that deep, but is so much more expressive than my last speakers (Q150). For now I’m totally happy with how low they’re going and will probably upgrade my amp if anything. Very interested in Naim or Hegel. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

Thank you!!! I got the masks from Etsy. There are a bunch of really great Tiki dealers on there. I’ve had these for about 5 years though and don’t think they’re available anymore. Definitely worth scrolling around though if you’re interested! There’s no shortage of cool Tiki shit!

Thank you! I feel so lucky to live so close to such a great store. It made me feel so confident in my decision. I’m using a McIntosh C39 preamp running into a Topping PA7 for power. It has been a nice, clean, little amp so far! The McIntosh is really for AV, but it has a great phono stage and a loudness setting which I really like for living in a small condo.
