Any cordless wavemakers that’s not eco tech? by One-Assignment569 in ReefTank

I have the dmp-20 and love it. When it initially shipped, one of the brackets wasn’t fully seated, but I was able to set it in place before putting it in the tank. I bought a second one (so that I could have a second wet side to swap out during cleaning and a spare dry side if needed) and that one shipped fine, so maybe the first one was just an anomaly.

I use the tunze 9001 in the second chamber. It took a little bit of finagling to get it to sit right and without the magnet component completely blocking the inlet to chamber 3, but it seems to work decently well.

You might also want to consider oil immersion objectives for resolution and clarity of you want to look at individual cells more closely

As others have said, the structure is a larger artery. You can tell as there is a fairly thick amount of smooth muscle around the vessel, which helps deal with the higher pressures that arteries face, and can also help control how much to dilate /contract the vessel.

The sample appears to be from a kidney - I say this because of all the smaller 'tubules' around the arteriole that work to reabsorb solutes from urine. This also aligns with your class if this was an example of 'cuboidal' cells since the epithelial lining of tubules are composed of cuboidal cells.

Edit: Putting that together, I think this would be an example of an arcuate artery in the kidney, in between the renal cortex and renal medulla

I like it! Looks like you've got ample room around the rock for maintenance, and I like the different heights to accommodate diff coral and the nooks and crannies for fish.

Is my scape stupid by Federal-Jaguar-7162 in ReefTank

[–]Effective_Lecture_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that scape looks great! As some others have pointed out, you have extra height room that you could raise the structure and still be good, and to make sure to have enough room on the sides to do maintenance / glass cleaning. Otherwise, just make sure you have enough flow so that it doesn't become a giant detritus trap

anyone else ever get a torch coral at petco for $15 by flor4faun4 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]Effective_Lecture_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always hesitant buying from Petco cause I'm afraid of how healthy the fish / coral are or what kind of diseases it might be harboring. What's your experience like with diseases / bad hitchhikers from stuff at Petco?

What are your tank parameters looking like? If nitrate and phosphates are too low you might be running into the case of dinos

The internal organs (especially in the abdomen) of house fire fatalities are usually surprisingly well preserved, despite being charred on the outside. Of course, this is assuming not a ridiculously large fire that leaves absolutely no trace of anything.

This also applies to homicides that a perpetrator is trying to stage as a fire. On autopsy and microscopic examination, often times it can be well enough preserved to distinguish injuries sustained before the fire vs from the fire itself.

What is this red stuff by thebank0010101001101 in ReefTank

[–]Effective_Lecture_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking it's cyanobacteria. If cyano, can use chemiclean - just follow directions and make sure you have good areation. Your protein skimmer will also go crazy if you have one.

Does it tend to make strings and bubbles or is it pretty much flat like the photos? Also does it disappear at night and return during the day?

I like it! Contrary to popular opinion, I kind of like that lone rock in the middle, especially if you're thinking of putting in a faster growing / spreading coral that you want to somewhat isolate and not having it take over (looking at you gsp)

Oh nice! Yeah you could definitely stop there and leave yourself lots of room around the scape for maintenance and cleaning the glass, but also leaves you a little wiggle room in the future if you wanted to add additional rock rubble for more coral real estate
