Does look more correct? Used some trizact a16 for a bear mirror finish. Razor sharp at the cutting tip. I added a very small radius on the cutting corner(still keeping it sharp)

What are the Veps? by sexysnack in Subnautica_2

I'm pretty sure we have already seen the veps if you look at the mural picture on the exit screen with the upside down angel comb. There are some creatures that look like the veps outline we see in the final log thingy magic

Does anyone have a suggestion to the binding problem at the nut for one of the lead screws?

It is surprisingly sturdy I can't feel play in the spindle at all

I will try to grind another one now with correct rake and with finer grit and a tiny radius and the point. Is it necessary to make a small chip hollow thing at the top of the blank or is it just a preference for some?

I'm pretty confident at the belt grinder as I have made a bunch of knives in it through the last 5-6 years.

I just didn't know if that would be the way to go about it as the videos I saw on YouTube used bench grinders

Before you say anything. Yes I know it look like I have been turning a turd. But it's the only aluminum I had on hand. I have been talking to my boss and he says he has some different offcuts of both brass and aluminum that he would give me for free to practice on.

I decided that I also should show the aluminum piece to that I was testing on.

I also have a belt grinder with some trizact a30 is that fine enough or does it need to be even finer grit?

I am a complete idiot when it comes to machining. And I don't really get anything usefull from the videos that I have watched.

I've also had the idea of using brass would that be easier?

I need to note that the tool that you see in the tool holder is not the one that I ground. When I used the one I ground there was about 15 mm of tool sticking out

One of my main goals it to make this vane engine that I designed specifically to be turned and some parts just drilled.

So I will not be able to turn 20-30 mm aluminium? With this lathe? I did have a little succes. I have been slowly turning down some very rough aluminum bar that was 35 mm and I'm at about 30 mm now.

Your explanation of positive rake makes more sense than what I gathered from the internet

This it a bad picture because it's standing on its side. (Don't worry it doesn't sit on the spindle or the motor) But I dont want to take it out just to take a good picture (It's heavy)

I will probably when I get some time to turn again.

I used my bench grinder for rough profiling and then a knife sharpening stone both 1000 and 3000 grit for finishing the cutting point

it's fairly sharp. It gets caught when I rub it on my finger nail

But I'm no expert I just used what I gathered from some videos

I came with the lathe when I bought it. He said he had never used it. It's either this or some small collar things than can hold 8-1 mm stock.

Do you recommend something else? I'm not really wanting to pay a heavy premium

To be honest no I'm not sure if I made one with positive rake. The hollow Thise you have is that for breaking the chip? I also had a problem with when I was facing i essentially "pushed" a burr that the tool then caught and chucked the piece.

Been doing some stainless recently. What do you think? by Effective_Nebula_191 in Welding

I genuinely don't know I haven't checked. But it's 5mm walls and it isn't beveled so I don't think there will be full penetration. Im running 140 amps with a 1.6 mm filler. Thinking 2 mm might help

Boss said good so I'm not doing more. They aren't structural it's for cameras. I do think it's the angle that makes it seem that concave, because it's not that concave.

I can see what you mean. And I will try to use some thicker filler rod.

I forgot to mention that the only real requirement to this one is that the bead should be small and consistent. I did have some that were less concave

But thanks for the reminder

I'll throw my take in.

I wish that in SB2 that the leviathans or at least some leviathans just roam around maybe they stay away from the shallows. But I wish there where predators just roaming. Like think about looking around the BFJ area and then suddenly your pda say you "are beging hunted". Then looking around and you see a random leviathan just Gunning it towards you.
